wow, nice character, which 100mm?
Thanks, I own a few of them.... It's a M42 lens from Night Owl NV monocular (no aperture), kind of similar to Cyclop 85mm lens.
Throughout the years I noticed that majority (if not all) of Soviet glass favors CCD more so then CMOS. They both good, it's just CCD make photos pop just a little bit more.
For what it is, the lens is VERY sharp in the center when focused right.

Cruise ship MSC Fantasia. MC Helios 44K-4 @ F5.6 on Pentax K-3 II. Processed in SilkyPix DS Pro 7.
The lens is brutally sharp, I even had to reduce the amount of sharpening SilkyPix applies by default. The colours seem slightly muted, but it is typical of vintage lenses.

Been playing today with my old 8-bladed Helios 44 and got this strange rainbow flare effect when the sun was close enough to the frame.

Mine is super sharp wide open, but only right in the center -- meaning I need what I have focused on to be right in the center. The image you posted, has the focused-on subject somewhat off-center, so, if your lens is like mine, I'd expect the focus there to be a bit softer. Still, even if it took some post-processing, the top of the fence post looks pretty sharp in your image.

Early Helios 44 - 8 blades

---------- Post added 06-07-17 at 05:09 PM ----------

And one more with the same Helios 44 (X-posted from the flare thread).
Heavy contrast and sharpness added, as (obviously) the image was very soft.

Rainbow flare

I love it - I love its quirks, I love the fact that it feels industrial, that the helicoid feels almost as smooth as Pentax manual focus lens.....and, of course, I love the swirly bokeh....

I was also pleasantly surprised at how sincerely sharp the lens is, once stopped down to f4 or beyond....

just don't point it at the sun....
