Another oldie but goodie from last summer/fall, taken with my Industar 61 L/Z

Taken just today with a Helios 44-2.

Both taken on a K-x. Hope someone will critique these and maybe the other two things I just posted. Still really a novice at this whole thing and could use all the helpful advice I can get.

Also, does anything know anything about Mir 10A's? I just bought one because it can focus in closer than my Industar and even with the crop factor it will be the closest focusing thing I own other than my kit lens (which I am loathe to use). I'm hoping I didn't just buy something that's not very good.

Another picture taken with my Helios 44-2. Just today, in fact. =D

Found this in what the backyard of an abandoned house out in the middle of nowhere. Gotta love rural Minnesota! I'm kind of thinking it might look a little better in black and white, though. Any thoughts?

@fiveseven: love the second picture

@vincent: try! see what you think. I think it *might* but it might become a jumble.

Shot handheld through car window. Pretty impressive for a $20 lens. Wide open, of course.

I'm I a little unsure about it. I think it'd look better if it had film grain on it (the only reason I really want to get a film camera, too) or had some more post processing done to it (unsharp masking, more contrast editing, etc). What do you guys think?

Also, again, does anyone know anything about the MIR 10a? I'd like to learn as much as possible about it before it gets here. ^.-.^;

I'm out of the game, I just sold my Jupiter-9 & Helios 44K-4 and am now Russian-less. I'm going to have to pick up another Helios just to keep playing.

Here's some of my favs taken with the K10D & Jupiter-9.

A quick Jupiter-9 snap;

K-5, Jupiter-9, F/2

N.B. After hearing copies varied, I started a search for an oil free copy about two years ago. Three lenses later, I learned how much variances actually existed between each lens as well as in optical quality. Unfortunately, the best performing lens turned-out to have oil on the blades. However... from an optical performance, there was no way I could ever let this lens go.

This lens is of the newer(black) MC versions. It was advertised as "new in box" and came with the original manual(dated and signed), a case and filters. It cost me 250 USD shipped at the door, and in my opinion, worth every single penny.

Stunning photograph, amazing combination of in and out of focus quality.
I own MC J-9 but that photo makes me want to get K5 (and maybe another Jupiter )

$250 USD??? I paid $85 USD for my NIB MC J-9 just before the lens acquired cult status.

In regards to the oil on blades issue. The short answer is that it is a non-issue unless the blades are sloppy wet or unless the oil has become gummy with age. A small amount of oil is normal for a pre-set or manual aperture lens with a large number of blades. For some lenses it is required for normal operation. My J-9 has a light smear of oil on the blades as do most of my other manual aperture lenses.

(Oil on blades is a larger issue for automatic aperture lenses because the iris stops down/up very quickly for EACH exposure and at 3+ frames per second, oil is not a good idea!)

Yowsah! I'm almost afraid to ask how you go that shot. You were'nt standing on a support were you?

JohnBee, Excellent photo, both in technical quality of the lens/camera/exposure but also in the expression of your subject. Makes me smile. Really captures the sweetness, innocence, and mischievousness of little girls. Remind me of my litter sister when she was that age. (Gosh she's now an adult with a daughter of her own! They grow up fast)

naw, there is an area on the island above a steep cliff that can be accessed from the top. i was shooting through a barbed wire fence but it was so windy, i was holding the tripod in place to keep it from blowing over. motion blur ruined almost all the pics save for a few when the wind faded a bit.
