All of them are pretty close or near in photo-quality output. Newest V version is very compact and probably the best overall. Although older ones are very sharp with outstanding optical performance. In the beginning I didn't like Mir 1's but after little bit of use I think it's one of the best (if not the best) 37mm lens out there.

My favorite is Mir 1A. (spring-loaded dual like aperture, 52mm vs 49mm filter/hood thread and can closer focus then any mir 1 version)

Thanks a lot fiveseven ... maybe I'll get lucky and find a Mir or two at the meet ... lots of lenses on my shopping list ... J

Finally got my Zenit 44M-6 today. Took a while in the post but you get that.

For some reason my house mate keeps these bottles...

My helios 44-2 sits above and exposes the metal lens mount of my pentax KR. I don't know how to describe this (this is my first m42 lens) but this part is not exposed on your typical DA lenses.

Should I be concerned about it? I imagine the metal parts would not do well exposed to the environment.

Does the lens have a ledge at the back? My Hanimax has that. Don't think it does any harm. The metal of the mount must be resistant to corrosion.

This is what I was referring to regarding my helios 44-2 mounted on my KR. The metal mount and contact nubs of my KR are exposed. And the holes from the Pentax adapter seem like an open invitation for dust into my camera body. Would this a problem? Am I mounting my lens incorrectly?

I think your concerns are founded. Never saw that.

Can you post pictures of the front and the back of the lens off-camera?

Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it. Just so you know the lens mounts and works perfectly fine on my KR.
