I have Helios 44M-2, and 44K-4 (pentax mount) I prefer using 44K-4 version. Not only because of k mount, I like pictures with 44-4 more, and I like that model on camera.

Bonjour,

Just FYI and "first chance" to someone on this thread ...

At the beginning of the summer I acquired a second copy. I am thinning out some gear, so one has to go. If interested, please feel free to send me a PM.

I am going to put one on the PF marketplace towards the end of the week. (Hope this post does not break any PF rules )

Salut, J

Very tempting Jean - those look like clean examples.

Not sure if the Zenitar 16 is "Soviet" or just Russian, but here's a couple images...

If "made in Russia", it is made in Russia, not USSR.

I checked the manufacture's site. Are you kidding me? Modern copy of Helios 40-2 for Canon EF mount is more than $400! Seriously?! For manual and non-soviet lens?! LOL

I think those Helios 40-2 from the Soviet era were so expensive on ebays that this Russian factory decided to start producing the lens again. It has an updated build, but should be optically very similar. Some say the quality of the new ones is not as high as the older ones. Dunno.

Zenit still makes and sells a couple lenses, like 50mm f2, and such. Mostly manual lenses, in different mounts (K, m42, Canon). But I am not sure when or if the production of Zenitar 16mm is still going. Certainly there are still many copies available.

Optically it may be old heritage, hard to believe that it may be the best version from past. No one there cares about innovations or investments; it's all about making quick profit using soviet work. I believe that the best Helios lenses are from 80-s till very little 90s.
They still produce Zenitar 16mm. Check the factory's site in English. Cameras and lenses is not the main production line there. I doubt it will be ever renovated.

Unmarked projector lens that I converted recently. f2/92mm

Will test it a bit more during better light. I think it has potential.
Another Russian projector pic (just testing FlickR)

The Helios-44-3 again, on some expired Kodak Max 400. (Was trying out a different processing lab with this roll, and can't say I'm entirely happy with them.)
