It seems like, there was to many internal reflections, from the exposed sensor when wideopen, because from the point of eyeviewer and focus indicator there should be more. Or maybe I should check my eyes

I normally use live view with magnification and focus peaking, when shooting manual lenses. Can be quite hard, especially with longer lenses, but I manage to nail focus with a 135 mm lens that way at f 3,5 . My eyes are not good enough to see all the details in the viewfinder and the implementation of focus confirmation is not precise enough for my taste.

This lens has a very abrupt transition from in- to out-of-focus, even when stopped down some, which compounds the difficulty of the shallow depth-of-field. Other lenses are more forgiving of a slight mis-focus, but with the Helios 40, it's either perfectly in focus, or obviously blurry. The lens makes you feel like you missed a lot worse than you really did.

The latest one... Made in 1954, M42 so it's possible a conversion from Zenit SLR or RF version. What's interesting is that the yellow or gold coating is what Soviets used in the 70's and 80's, most if not all early Soviet lenses usually had blue coating.
Very clean and smooth operating lens.

Nice pictures, I really liked number #3 (without counting the lens ones) ... and your projector lens has the Hellios 44K-4 as a base, and some filters and a hood, and some extensions that convert the 58 mm focal length into a 130 mm lens ? Is that right ?

The base (focusing) body is Helios 44M (M42). The filters and spacers were made to fit around the lens itself not to provide any optical distance.
The focal length of the lens is 130mm and has a long sensor register working distance so I used M42 extension rings on the back of Helios body to create proper working focusing distance.

Helios 44 and pretty much all Soviet SLR lenses are about 45mm sensor register distance.
True, Helios 44M has 58mm focal length, this conversion only barrows Helios body, all the Helios glass elements are gone and are not there. Projector lens is inside instead.

Nice, it has working aperture as well?
On mine I still shoot mainly open, steping down would would probably be good as a macro lens as it's much sharper than most if not all telephoto's I've tried.
