Nice shots with the 44k-4
Thanks. The shot with flames was quite hard to produce. It took a while to nail the focus (the tops of the logs) and then I fiddled around with composition and exposure time, to achieve necessary effect. Besides it was quite cold outside for shooting without gloves.

Speaking about Helioses I have 44M-4, not multicoated and it wobbles in the camera. Even when screwed in tight, there is some considerable distance between the camera mount and the back of the lens. It came mounted on a Zenit camera and that camera's mount protrudes a bit beyond the camera body, so that the back of the lens touches it, when screwed in.

At a rate of roughly one a year, mostly from junk shops/markets, I've been collecting the Helios 44s, and here they are after the recent addition of a 44-3 from Belarus. It seems to perform like a 44-2 with better coatings/contrast.

And a snap by the 44-3 through a shop window (adding reflections to the bokeh)

I really live in the wrong place.. :P

The only lens I found in a thrift shop was a SuperTakumar 28/3.5, which I always got as a bargain at a photography store.. (where I won't go anymore as he thought that my industar 50-2 is so small and was so cheap that it's probably so bad that it's good again. Funny because he sold me the supertak for less...)

On another note,
Does anybody know what I should gift my mate?
I got a Tamron Twin Tele for birthday from him and thought I'd give him something russian when he comes to visit me, was thinking of another industar 50-2 as I'm really happy with mine but last time I mentioned it he said he's got enough lenses(!) in that focal lenght..

Has anybody got any suggestions I may not have thought of? Target price is around 30$.

Hope to get lucky on a MIR-1? My first one was about that, but Now the $CAD has dropped like a rock (Down 50% from two years ago) and everything is prohibitively expensive, to the point I'm being very very critical of prices. I have snapped at a fourm-goer (You know who you are. Sorry mate...) over pricing.

If you play it safe and are careful, easily around $25-50 range. Plus its a very very nice lens. Award winning and all that.

Hmm, didnt think of that!

I'd need two, I suspect my own copy is a lemon.. It literally never seems to be properly focused.

Most seem to be in the 60$ region lately (around 10$ more than last year if I remember right!)

Some Helios Love

I thought I might give my newest Helios a bit of love this afternoon. Given that is *says* it's a 44M-7 on the front but it's really a 44M I wanted to see if if it worked as well as it faked it.

Here it is

Tried to keep the aperture in the middle and ISO as low as possible. Living in California helps most of the time. I'm pleased with it . It bears close examination but starts to lose it in the denser areas of brances.

Whaddya all think - am I being to critical.

I messed with my 44k-4 and Industar 50-2 at Bonneville on Friday morning. Will process in a couple hours. Wish me luck!

You should! It's not the "fishy-est" on aps-c, but you can control that somewhat with careful framing. It also can be used as a good, sharp wide-angle.

Don't take this beast out often enough.
A couple of shots from Petworth Park yesterday.

Got some decent ones. First two are Industar 50-2. Rest are Helios 44k-4. All on K5.

(Sorry, this one appears to be an old 28mm f2.8)
