I drove up to Oregon to visit family over the holidays. I brought the Zenitar 50/1.7 as my one lens this time.

It was gloomy and damp most of the time, which was a nice change from Arizona's perpetual sunshine.

We did get sun one day, though. I went for a walk in the hills with my mom as she searched for interesting little mushrooms to take pictures of.

This lens doesn't have much in the way of flare resistance, but I don't mind.

It was a little cold for Skippy, but she did enjoy the change of scenery.

Nice Industar images, Grippy! I especially like the one of Buster, of course. It's a neat little lens, often overlooked because of its slow aperture, but it renders very nicely. Maybe I'll bring mine as the "one lens" on my next road trip.

Thanks mate, I am quite happy with the little lens so far. I've decided I'll take it paired with the K50 to New Zealand tomorrow as a nice light rig to take on days where I don't want to lug around the K3 with grip and other lenses

Here's another one with the little gem

OK Grippy, you convinced me to take my Industar out of the closet this morning. It's so small, it took me a minute to find it.

All are taken wide open, if we can call f/3.5 "wide."

That last one in particular is excellent.

Thank you! She was posing for me with her ball, and I got this picture a few seconds earlier:

But I was taking too long, so she pointed out just what she was waiting for, which I liked more than the usual "dog looking at camera" shot. And yes, I did throw the ball, as requested.

Industar 50-2, such a versatile little lens since taking it apart and taking out the focus limiters to gain infinity

That black and white cityscape is outstanding, Grippy. Perfect framing.

I took the swirl monster to the park this morning, the Helios 40. The Industar is cheap, tiny, and versatile. The Helios is none of those things.

I was taking too long to throw the ball again.

Some absolutely astounding shots you've snapped here! That Poodle has sass written all over it!

Out of interest, do you use catch-in-focus or is it a case of focus confirmation and snap? Or just go by eye?

Both with the Jupiter-9. The former could've been sharper, more in focus, etc. but I'm happy enough with the softness of it. Also incorrectly set the focal length to 55mm as I was having fun with an Auto-Tak before it.

Thanks very much! If the subject is moving, I set the focus to a good distance depending on the size of the subject, then use burst mode as they (hopefully) cross the focal plane. With dogs, it's hard to tell exactly when and where they'll wind up in the frame, and they may stay in the focal plane for a few of the shots, which lets me pick the best one. The dog park is perfect for it, since there's possible subjects zooming all over the place. I frame the shot and hope they run into it. Sometimes they just run into me instead, but these old lenses are tough.

If the subject is sitting still, I use focus peaking and live view zoom.

It's good to see another classic Soviet lens put to good use! You should take Mabel and your Jupiter to the beach. You could try some burst-mode shots with it there.

Thank you for the kind words and detailed breakdown. I should really use burst-mode more than I do... Having recently sold off the K-70 to fund a K-1 however, the burst is not quite as fast... but probably still worth a go!

Taken on the beach with the Jupiter-9 and K-70, albeit not a fast target in this instance!
