I posted more about it back in the thread a bit, here. This may not be what you had in mind, but I did take one picture on the way to the park on Saturday. Focus is on the lighted "car wash" sign. If you click to the full-size, you can see that the substation in the background is quite a bit out of focus.



If you are interested in it for astro, it may be a good candidate. It is a slide projector lens, so the rendering across the frame is fairly consistent, but there is no aperture, so stopping down is not an option unless you make your own to slap on the front like a lens cap.

Maybe I'll take it along on tomorrow morning's walk. The moon is full and it's been beautiful watching as it sinks into the mountains to the west.

Ok, there actually is quite a bit of field curvature on the 100/1.8. Not nearly as much as, say, a Helios 40, but it's there. I would stick to portraits with this one.

Thanks for taking the time to post these Scratchpaddy, they do not disappoint! I had a feeling the images would look bright and give a movie like quality to light sources. Reminds me a touch of Cinestill film. I was curious particularly with how well this lens allowed for moderate shutter speeds at night compared to other sub f.2 lenses, especially as it has some unique character- your pics have given me some idea 🙂

A less remarkable slide projector lens today: Triplet-5M 2.8/100, made at a different plant in Belarus in the '80's. Slower, but far smaller and lighter than the BeLOMO 1.8/100, with a 3-element optical formula straight out of the 19th century.

This is not a DSLR vs Mirrorless but when it comes to fast glass and longer focal length, unless your camera is 100% calibrated, it's a real frustration in working with those lenses. Originally I've started with Pentax DSLR's and stayed there for about 5 years, my keeper rate was low about 20% on a good day, Once I found out mirrorless with focus peeking, it's 85 to 90%.
Anyway, those Soviet projector lenses are beyond good on how sharp and cinematic they are, they will outperform any DSLR commercial lens even the newest one made.One thing about them, since they were meant to be used in the dark, they were coated a bit differently then camera lenses, it was more designed for color reproduction not flare resistance.With a proper hood, they are just about ideal for portrait.

I haven't got a dreamy lens in that length and have been itching to get my hands on one for a while!

I can answer this. Yes, it's a 16KP-1,2/35. Manufactured in Izyum, Ukraine. It is not as common as the 1.2/50 and usually sells for about $50. Unfortunately it doesn't even cover APS-C. You'd only get full coverage on M4/3. There's a good writeup of it on Hispan's Photoblog (a very dangerous place ). It was one of the first conversions he did, and he mangles the lens pretty good. Pictures showing frame coverage are about halfway down the page. His blog is a great resource if you don't mind a clumsy machine translation (or just happen to understand Hungarian).

This is the Hudson River in Hudson Falls, NY. Back in the 1800's, it was called Sandy Hill & there was a dam at this spot with a lumber mill on the river. Logs would come from the Adirondack Mts and floated down the Hudson to various mills.
Most of the lumber was transported south by barge to Albany & New York City. I think the dam was removed when I was a kid but you can tell where it used to be.

Close to thirty years ago, local, corrupt politicians were able to get a trash burn plant built by this spot. Stinks to high heaven during the summer!
