I went out for a late lunch and ran into some police action at the Plaza de Armas. They even had the water cannon deployed. Occasionally, the police would run here or there and whistles would be blown, but I couldn't make much sense of what was going on. The shops facing the plaza were all shuttered. When I went into the supermarket that also faces the plaza later after lunch (Only one shutter was raised to permit the entry of customers.) there were more police inside than customers. I wanted to jokingly ask one of the sales attendants if the revolution had started but then thought I'd better not. I asked her, in my poor Spanish, what was going on outside. I thought she said something about Chile and Peru and suspected it was about a football match between the two countries, but then I thought that was absurd. Actually, my landlord confirmed that that was the case. There's a match between Arequipa and a team from Santiago tonight. Five Chilean troublemakers have been taken into custody. Go Arequipa!
