I think rule of thirds would have improved it.

I tried to get the palm tree to move to the left, or the house to move to the right, but they wouldn't.

Lots of practice and breathing control. Slowly exhale, squeeze the shutter.

House on the hillside - Super Tak 105 on K10D. Not my best effort, but I still kinda like it :
Beautiful area! My only suggestion (and keep in mind this is with no knowledge of the layout of where you were standing!) would be make trying a vantage point farther to the left to get more of the road in the shot and get the house rising above it with the tree to the right.

Also sorry if this is criticism that wasn't wanted, I just kinda want to see what it'd look like if you're back in that area.

Thanks for the feedback. That shot was just a quickie from the back wall of the yard as I was trying to take advantage of the evening light. I didn't have many compositional options from there, esp with a 105mm prime. Yes, the area is a bit of a problem, since it's across a highway, and there are low power lines I try to keep out of the shot. But as I said, it's nearby so I'll keep at it.

You're lucky to live in such a beautiful environment!

Here's a Panasonic Toughbook set up as a chart plotter for my boat, inside a case we built out of locust to give it more protection in the marine environment. Taken with my Takumar SMC 55mm f/2 at f5.6, on a tripod.

And for anyone who has doubts about the image quality obtainable from one of these 50 year old Takumars, here is a 1024 x 766 unresized crop from near the center of the picture:

We need something other than just "like" on this forum. Those are marvelous.

Wouldn't work. If we had a good, better, and best you would have to reward a "best" to avoid insulting the forum member, then we would have long exchanges about the meaning of good, better, and best! :>)
