I think that's salicornia, aka "sea asparagus". It grows all over the coast here in California too.
Thanks!...not sure if I should try it?.....

Salicornia europaea is highly edible, either cooked or raw.[4] In England it is one of several plants known as samphire (see also Rock samphire); the term samphire is believed to be a corruption of the French name, herbe de Saint-Pierre, which means "St. Peter's Herb."[5]

The 3rd. is very strong. It reminded me my own city (Buenos Aires) where is full of persons without home, without bread, without love. . Not for all forums. But it is a reality that deserves to be shown, to me of course.
Yeah, this was a strange situation as I was walking with my camera, playing with settings while talking to my wife at the same time and I looked up and saw this guy sitting in the above position and he was rocking back and forth and talking to himself and I pointed the camera which was at waist level and took the shot with all the wrong setting and obviously out of focus.

In Japan, the homeless are ignored so no one seemed to notice him. I felt bad that I was just moving with the crowd and didn't stop and offer him something but to interact with him would have brought unwanted attention to him and may have made him feel worse.

Couple more in my photostream (click on the pic to go there).

EDIT: I also have some pics of the lens itself there now.

I seriously can't remember what I've posted already. I have to come up with some kind of a system.

Just to prove that not all the women in Japan are good looking, and to engage in a bit of photographic irony, I offer up this photo of a woman who works at a high-end cosmetics boutique:

My dog seems to be my subject of choice for trying out new lenses. My AF confirm told me the focus was on her eyes but it seems to be more on her nose. So this is why I take shots of my dog I guess. So I can learn how to compensate.

SMC Takumar 400/5.6 with no. II extention tube and flash. This one came with a healthy case of fungal infestation. A brilliant cleaning job was done by Erick Hendrickson.

Is there anything he can't fix?

@Mike Cash: that "50" limitation refers to miles/hour (as opposed to km/hour)? I guess they don't use the metric system in Japan, right?

The tones in your photo reminded me of this:
