That's great. What's the sweet spot for it?

And is that in-camera B&W JPEG?

Strummed right on the joint between the neck and body, or maybe just an inch or so up the neck.

Having iTouch problems replying to Mike's post above.

Well, that worked. But the reply function doesn't, and it always does.

By the way:

What should I expect to pay for a Super 35 2? There are two on eBay now that are way up there in price, so that's why I'm asking.

Would this be a $200 baby in very good to excellent condition?

I'm not the one to ask, my perception of the value of this lens is skewed. I bought mine (2nd version Super) in mint condition along with a mint SMC Tak 50 f1.4 for $40 total.

I recently sold my 35/2 for $240 total. It just seemed like too much of a profit to pass up. At the time, a local seller on Craigslist had an SMC version for sale at $100, I was going to sell my copy and upgrade to the SMC version and make $140 on top of it. Then, I got lazy and didn't bother to pick the SMC version up. It would have been a 20 minute drive.

I'd buy this lens again for about $100. If you absolutely need it now, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for one in mint condition. The question I always ask myself before I purchase a lens is: if tomorrow, I HAVE to sell this lens, will I be able to break even at least?

I know this sounds really f'ed up to a lot of people but you never know when you will need money suddenly.

Super-Takumar 35mm 3.5

Now, I'm really curious as to how it compares to my K series 35mm 3.5 in sharpness.

@ Hangu - I also tend to consider resale value when buying lenses and I have several that I picked up to try largely because I knew I could get my money back if I ever decided to resell them.

There were a 8 or so people dressed up as birds and wandering around on stilts at city hall in Toronto last week. Surprisingly hard to shoot as they had to keep moving to keep their balance.

I never consider resale value of Takumars because I never consider reselling them. Nor do I consider the cosmetic appearance of the lens; all I care about is the condition of the glass and the moving parts. I spend my time looking through them, not at them.

Driving home from work yesterday and the driver's side window is broken--doesn't roll down more than 25% of the way.

Camera is on passenger seat with the 85, and a POLARIZER.

I stop at a red light, and THIS pulls up next to me:

It was color jpeg that I converted, and the image definitely needed help in PP, but I didn't want to go nuts on the sharpening, even though it could still use some.

I'm just thrilled I was able to get a picture through my filthy window before the light turned green, not the window you see near the dogs but the closed window I was shooting through.

Got two shots, but this one is funnier.

I never see you in the market place so you're in the minority. For the rest of us, we're constantly upgrading and pouring more money into our equipment. If I see an SMC 85mm f1.8 at a good price, I'll probably have to sell the Super 85mm f1.9 version to fund the upgrade.

There will be times when something bad happens and you need money fast. You just never know when it'll happen. I'd sell my lenses if it means helping a friend or family member out.

@Ira, good job. Glad to see you're finally using the 85. Sharpness is fine in my opinion.

For me Takumars are not some auxiliary sideline gear I own a couple of pieces of to provide me with a change of pace from higher priced modern gear and which would be the first to get sacrificed in a pinch. They're my mainline everyday gear and if I needed money in a pinch I'd first sell off my two Tamrons. For one thing, they'd bring more money than the Takumars, and for another they're still in production and therefore more easily replaceable.

If times get hard enough that I'm down to selling off $20~50 Takumars then it is highly likely I have overlooked some other salable items along the way. Hell, I'd sell off the K20D first. It would bring more than the lenses, could be replaced with an upgrade later on, and at least I could still use my Takumars with my film bodies every now and then.

They'll be the last thing to go.

I have the same feeling about them. I don't ever see myself selling any.

They're like history to me. So much so that I after I can nail two or three more Tak purchases that I have my eye on (plus a modern lens), I'm going to be looking for a Super-Multi-Coated version of the 50 1.4 which I already have in Super.
