Here are a couple of shots with the S-M-C Takumar 28mm F3.5 set to hyperfocal F8 on a Spotmatic F.
These were on the Jatujak Weekend Market in Bangkok.

Deep technical info about Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 1.4/50

Hi folks,

I need some good and particular information about this lens: Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm f1.4 for a technical review in order to participe to a photo seminar.
Could you please point me to where to find valuableness info about its optical formula (I need elements explained), diagrams, MTF's, SMC accuracy, optical efficiency and any other fabrication/manufacturing details. I would need also some historical and economics details too.

Please don't give me Google results, as I already have all info available online, I've searched (with Google) about twenty hours getting through the first two thousands records and collecting every piece of data available. But I need deeper technical info, if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance!

This made me wonder what hyperfocal meant, so I went away and found out. Thanks for prodding me to go digging!

Sounds like a very useful approach for quick shooting. With a Takumar, I guess the exposure is pretty easy, as you just stop the lens down and let Av mode choose the shutter speed.

Super Takumar 35mm f/2 ?

SAw this at a local shop and they want $229. Looks to be in great shape and they rate it at 9+ but I've heard there's problem with the glass yellowing?

This lens does have a yellow cast when looking through it wide open. I know nothing about Takumars, but is this a fair price? And since I plan to convert most shots to B&W, would a slight yellow cast matter?

I have had a few little exposure inconsistencies with Av on the K10D with the Taks .... so i just use manual mode ... and when I am about to take the shot I hit the Green button and then shoot ... it's still pretty good to get a quick shot off.

I don't have this lens but I've seen some online in Japan ranging from $80 ~ $200. I really want this lens as I like shooting with a 35mm and my Super Takumar 35mm 3.5 doesn't do well in low light. $229 may be a little expensive but you don't see them as much as the 3.5.

As for the yellow casting, there's some threads on how to get rid of it or just live with it as I do with it on my Super Takumar 55mm and if converting to B&W it shouldn't be an issue.

Try looking through old trade journals and perhaps archival issues of major optical journals?

Photo from a Farmers' Market today, this was just one pile of many. 85mm f1.9 Super Takumar at f8 or f11.

What you're asking for is pretty specific information and you may be able to find it in Japanese publications or internet sites but if you cant read Japanese, that door is closed.

Sorry for the lack of respenses but I dare say we like using and collecting Takumar Lenses, not studying them. We've all probably conducted our own bit of research but what you're asking is beyond my knowledge.

Good luck!
