On the rare occasion when required, yes. I am likely to be taking it off a lot more soon... I'm trying to get started in astrophotography, and unfortunately they seem to have discontinued the M42-Telescope adaptor, and I was forced to buy the K-Telescope one!

So you call the new divorcee who moved in across the street and showers with the curtains open astrophotography?

Well, astrophotography IS about exploring heavenly bodies.

Actually, to keep this a bit more on topic -- Thomas Shahan, of low-budget macro bug photography fame, has gotten some great shots of the moon with his old Takumar 50/1.4, hand-holding his camera up to his telescope's eyepiece!

Nice photos here.
I just got my Dandelion af-confirm -adapter (m42-eos).
Focus confirmation isn't accurate and now I'm looking for a focusing screen.
I think i'll find advices on Pentaxforum.

John, B&H doesn't sell the original Pentax one. Only the Bower. You have to go to the Pentax store for the original, which is THIRTY bucks. but worth every penny:

PentaxWebstore Mount Adapter K(35m m Screwmount to Bayonet)

This has been an ongoing raging debate here, with those of us with brains insisting on only getting the Pentax one, and these other fools insisting that the clones are okay. () I myself had problems with one of the Bowers--it wouldn't even mount--so that's where I'm coming from.

The 50 1.4 is my favorite lens. Spectacular. Do you have the Super or Super Multi Coated? I have the straight Super. And go check on what that lens is selling for these days on eBay.
I have the Super. If it were the Super Multi-Coated, it would be spelled out on the lens right?

Yep--you got the super. Post full serial # to see if you have one of the early "special" ones.

Even if not, have you looked at the eBay prices recently? Low auction prices have been at $125 to $150, and the BIN prices are now at $225 and up!!!

The prices for these Taks has skyrocketed in the last 6 months.

I would love to have the Super Multi Coated version too, but ours is no slouch at all compared to it. If you see any yellowing to the lens, let us know. There's a simple fix by leaving it exposed to sunlight a certain way, but many of us don't bother because we like the warm tone with the yellow.

Right--you have a super little gem to be even more accurate. I own this lens and love it. It is built with a precison & excellence that modern lenses left behind. Just holding the lens inspires confidence. Congratulations!

It looks like you can get the original Pentax adapter from B&H,
Pentax MOUNT ADAPTER K 30120 B&H Photo Video
It might take a bit longer to be delivered thought as it may not be in stock, but it's about $10 cheaper....

Seriously? I got my Super 50/1.4 at around $110 back in October, and that was a very high price at the time (little did I know, it being my first Takumar purchase).

I was on my iTouch before and couldn't see that your image had the full serial #.

I don't remember/know how to identify it as one of the special ones, but maybe someone else can chime in. I think it also has to do with the position of the little red infrared mark on the barrel.

For parts, not working, 80 bucks:
PENTAX SUPER MULTI COATED TAKUMAR 50mm 1:1.4 W/CAPS - eBay (item 310280170750 end time Jan-14-11 06:50:21 PST)

Here's a good BIN on one for just 99, or so it seems:
Asahi Pentax 50mm f/1.4 Super Takumar M42 Lens - eBay (item 120668570743 end time Feb-05-11 17:26:31 PST)

A BIN for only $129, claiming excellent condition, but no guarantee that the thing works. From a PHOTO reseller no less:
PENTAX 50mm f/1.4 SUPER-TAKUMAR M/F LENS #609 - eBay (item 170587147119 end time Feb-04-11 16:15:36 PST)

BIN, $189:
ASAHI SUPER TAKUMAR 50MM 1.4 LENS M42 SCREW MOUNT CLEAN - eBay (item 330481279704 end time Feb-02-11 15:48:41 PST)

BIN, $263, S-M-C:
M42 SUPER MULTI COATED TAKUMAR 50mm F/1.4 VRARE 8 BLADE - eBay (item 330517522489 end time Feb-08-11 09:59:58 PST)

Only $145 BIN for this one in crap condition:
Asahi PENTAX Super Takumar Lens 1:1.4 /50 - eBay (item 310257582189 end time Jan-30-11 19:20:46 PST)

The only way to explain the auction prices is for you to watch the current auctions, and see what they actually sell for.
