Super-Takumar 1:2/55

There is another stop past 2 on the aperture ring, and I can see the diaphragm opens up wider too - is this 1.8?

I have seen somewhere, I think it is in this tread, that there is a ring just over the aperture blades that limits the opening to f2. It is also said that this ring can be removed to have f1.8.

I have this lens in the f1.8 format and it is a great lens.

There are a few things I noticed when shooting with the 50/1.4 today.
1., When I look through the lens I can see a slight yellow tint, but to me, it isn't real obvious when looking at the photos.
2., It makes me a bit nervous to have the lens contacts on the camera exposed to the open air, suppose I'll just have to be careful nothing touches them.
3., It is a joy to operate these lenses and makes shooting with them a lot of fun.

My Takumar is going to be responsible if I fail my mid-terms.

So here I am, practicing math questions for my upcoming mid-term. 30 seconds later, I find myself working the focus wheel on my super-tak 50/1.4, with no memory of ever picking it up.

The same thing happens any time I'm writing an essay or doing any homework. Why can't it be in shabbier condition, or less smooth? My modern lenses are too loose in their focusing, and the SMCT 28/3.5 I have feels a bit sludgier; the Tak is perfect. So perfect, that I'm going to fail this exam....

S-M-C Takumar 6x7 200mm F4.0 on K20d

I recently aquired the S-M-C Takumar 6x7 200mm F4.0 and have just tried it on my K20d. On may way back on my first outing with this lens a happy dog came running towards me, and thanks to 'focus trap' I managed to get a couple of good ones, of which this one is the best. The lens seems to manage the strong backlight quite well:

S-M-C Takumar 6x7 200mm F4.0 on Pentax K20D, 200 iso, 1/350 sec. @ F 5.6

A proper 6x7 camera is under way - I have the camera and a couple of lenses, but I still lack a functioning TTL finder.

Just did some casual tests shooting outside my truck window and it looks like the "Auto EV Compensation" feature actually works.

I have with me the Auto-Takumar 55/2, S-M-C Takumar 35/3.5, and Takumar 105/2.8 (Preset). I did shots wide open, at f5.6, and f16 and compared the images and looked at the histograms. The widest shots were slightly under, but only slightly. There is a consistency between the shots that wasnt obtainable for Av mode Takumar shooting before. When I get a chance I will try to set up and take a series of example shots to post.
It surprised me to see how well the K20D metered the scenes with the S Tak 50/1.4 using Mike's tip above. The camera metered better in this situation than with the
DA 18-55mm f 3.5-5.6 AL WR, which underexposed in a similar situation.

All from a SuperTak 35 F/2 (the later one). I don't love this lens -- It's turned yellow (which I've slowly been fixing -- it's a slow process.) This lens did convinced me to buy a FA31 -- so I can thank it for that!

(I also got this was from Craigslist with a a S-M-C 50/1.4, SuperTak 200/4 Spotmatic SP, and a bunch of accessories for $90, so I'm pretty happy with that! All from an original owner -- he was happy someone could make use of it!)

Nice photos, I like!

Here are a couple examples relating to my previous post about metering differences.
1 & 2 with the S Tak 50, 3 & 4 with DA 18-55mm.

Dude, I'm putting together a restaurant magazine with a lot of high-end images supplied by their PR firms, and this shot nails their style to a tea!

Were you at 1.4 for this, and do anything special?

Ira , yes f1.4 , and ISO 800

I shoot pure manual, using the green button method ( with some exosure adjustment until I like what I see) oh , and custom white balance

for PP I normally correct the white balance a bit , and add some NR in lightroom 3 , I also use the curves adjustment to boost the darks 8-15%

One thing in my favour is my Tak 50 is quite yellow and it forced me to do a lot of white balance adjustment as my kids have the skin tone of ghosts
