Here are some photos taken with my Super Tak 135 mm/3.5 during my visit to central Florida. The last two were my tribute to Mike Cash (while waiting in the rental car for my wife while she shopped).

Takumar's

Here are a couple of photos that I took with my new found Tak's. The first three are with the SMC 200mm f/4 and the last one is the Zebra Auto 55mm f/1.8.

So here I am trying to act normal by taking pictures on foot and I've gone and inspired MSM to shoot from the comfort of bucket seats. I appreciate the thought.

Sixty-Four Years is a Long Time

Hiroji Wada passed away March 5, 1941 at the age of 45. His wife Yasu passed away August 11, 2005 at the age of 102.

From 38 until 102 is a hell of a long time to be a widow.

What I found most interesting about this stone, though, is that it has already been relocated to the area of the cemetery where the remains from abandoned tombs (and their associated stones) are moved. I don't know how long the stone has been there, but the lady has only been gone three years as I write this. Perhaps she and Hiroji got reincorporated into a new location and there was no room for the old stone. Perhaps she just outlived all her relatives. Or maybe they just resold her little plot of "eternal" resting place. Who knows?

Mike, what do you mean by "Flash Waves"? I'm interested in how you use your AF200T with your Taks. You've got a great technique there and I'd love to know more!

I basically just use the flash in auto thyristor mode, match the aperture to whatever the flash unit tells me to, and go clickety-clickety on the shutter thingy.

The flash goes on the radio receiver. The transmitter goes on your camera hotshoe. You position the flash somewhere away from the camera. In the dragon photo, for example, the flash was on the same level (roughly) on the right and fired across the scene at a 90 degree angle, ensuring some stark difference between lit and unlit portions of the scene.

200mm f4

Here are a couple of shots that I took today on my way to the pool hall today. The last photo was with a tamron 1.4x AF converter. This is by far the best $4 lens I have ever bought.

From last week, found this ladder in an alleyway. Shot with my S-M-C Takumar 85mm f1.9. Very busy image, 25% or so desaturation mutes things:

Ah, thanks. I recently bought a AF280T (which works great in Auto mode) and the next thing I need is to get something to use it off camera: cables or wireless. ...

Flash Question

Hope this is not too simple a question. Is it possible to use your built in flash with the Takumar's? I have tried to add flash or even fill flash a few times only to get seriously overexposed shots. I have had fun with the Tak's but I have found the metering can be challenging on the K10D with or without flash. Any advice? Thanks.

@MSM - Your flash goes off at full power because the camera can't read aperture data from the lens. You can go to a higher numerical f-stop value or reduce your ISO to compensate, or put a diffuser on the flash (I use a translucent Fuji film canister cut to fit over the onboard flash's head). You may also find this flash table handy: K10d Flash Tables_beta on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

It's very easy. I hauled a container a week or two ago that had a hole in the roof and some of the goods sustained water damage. They wanted some photos of the damage and all I had were Takumars and I didn't bring an external flash that day.

The Guide Number of the built-in flash is about 13 in meters at ISO 100. Just divide the distance into 13 to get the aperture at ISO 100. So for a shot about 3 meters away gives 13 divided by 3 equals roughly f4. Take a shot, check it on the screen to see if it is under or over, and adjust your aperture open or shut a tad to correct. If shooting at a different ISO, just adjust accordingly. Same shot at 200 would be f5.6, at 400 would be f8, at 800 would be f11, etc.

If you're not used to meters, call them yards. All you're looking for is a ballpark approximation anyway. Get in the neighborhood and then check and adjust, as mentioned above.
