Hi boys and girls. I'm back.

I just celebrated the first anniversary of the worst year I've ever had in my life--I have now been unemployed for a YEAR.

Mind you--for the last 6 months at least, every day, I sent out applications for positions that pay a iiveable wage. For the last 3 months, I've been sending out applications for jobs that pay ANY wage. But at 54, and in South Florida, it seems that my working life may be over, unless they bring 19th Century British workhouses to Coral Springs with their big treadmills to grind wheat and corn.

And I won't even get into the fact that my wife basically hates my guts these days because all of a sudden, after 22 years of marriage (22nd anniversary on Aug. 4th net week!), I'm not "bringing home the bacon." I've never been unemployed for more than 3 months...just 4 jobs in the last 22 years...and all of a sudden, I'm a total piece of sh*t.

So, the hell with her and the sex that I'm not getting. More important is the problem with my ST 50 1.4:

This is/was my favorite lens in the world, and I had a problem with the ring that the filter ring was mounted to. It turns out that the only way to make it work was to epoxy the main ring--the holes to mount it with screws were damaged. So I did the fix, but I did something else which screwed up the aperture:

The pin appears bent, and when turning the ring, she ain't stopping down. She stops from 2.8 to like 4, maybe 5.6, but that's it.

I am literally crying rivers of tears over this, and I want her back. If it can be repaired, I'll pay. If someone has a 50 1.4 and wants to trade for ANY of the lenses in my sig, I'll do it.

My heart and soul is invested in this lens, and when you consider the miserable life that I've led this past year, this problem could not have come at a worse time.

So far, in 2011, life really sucks for me.

The Super Takumar 85/f1.9 is a really nice lens! Never cease to amaze me.

Tak 105mm F/2.8 Similar Color Signature ?

I have a few Super Taks; the 24/3.5, 35/3.5, 50/4, and the 105/2.8 . They are all great in their own way, but I am in love with the color signature of the 105/2.8 which to my eye has a different palette from the other Taks.

Are there any other Taks with this same cooler, blue-cast, soft pastel coloration I see with the 105 ? Am interested in finding out if any of the color signatures of the 85/1.8, 85/1.9, 50/1.4 or the 50/1.8 match my beloved 105/2.8. It doesn't have to be just Supers, SMC and S-M-C are all lenses I would like to know if they have the same color signature as the 105mm.

Sorry to hear all that, Ira. Rest assured, your Taks still love you. Good luck with the 50.

Can I ask, why doesn´t your wife get a job?

I agree that the S-T 105 renders very pleasant color and clarity. I recently obtained an SMC Takumar 50 f1.4 which is producing similarly pleasant images, it's been a surprise.

Sorry to hear about this Ira! One of my parents is in a similar position as you and has been looking for a new job for several years now. It seems like a combination of bad economy + ageism. I hope your situations are fixed soon!

Couple from yesterday's golden hour

It's been a while since I contributed. Yesterday I had some time around sunset to let the kids play and they let me play, too.

SuperTak 135/35 at f3.5 for both of these. Minor amount of LR tweaks.

Has it really been a Year? That sux. Been there. Still there. Did something else and went out and made my own work (Building Contractor). 10 years now. Find something that people need and you can provide, get the certs to do it and set yourself up in business. Just a thought.

About a 50.. Contact me if this other one falls through. I have one that may interest you.

Not from that lens but my 50mm 1:1 preset..

theunartist; The SMC 50mm F/1.4 has a similar color signature to the S-T 105mm F/2.8 ? I thought the SMC's and S-M-C's additional coating gave a different look than S-T's. I almost bought a 50 F/1.4 on the 'bay, but lost out in the bidding. You know the S-T 50mm F/4 Macro's colors don't look like the S-T 105 at all ? Odd. But the SMC 50 f/1.4 does have an awesome rep.

The S-T 105 is known to be a bit soft as far as reviews go and it is, the S-T 50/1.4 is a sharp lens even wide open. I have found the 105 has that soft yet sharp look. Both my SMC Tak's 50/1.4 and 55/2.0 also have that same "soft creamy sharpness". It maybe because of this oddly attractive "soft creamy sharpness" that contrast is slightly reduced, producing the "pastel" like colors you referred to in an earlier post...

I've never had the pleasure of using a the S-T 50 macro

Thanks unartist. Yeah, I think I know what you mean by soft but sharp. That cool-blue-temperature coloration appeals to me after so many Sony, Minolta and Sigma lenses.

Can anyone out there comment on the S-T 50 f/1.4 compared to it's SMC, S-M-C breatheren, color-wise ?
