For the science enthusiasts here, this is Dr. James Watson, who discovered the structure of DNA with Francis Crick and Rosalind Franklin and won the Nobel Peace prize for it. He is VERY important to the field of biology and genetics. He was giving a lecture on fighting cancer.

Haven't been on here in a while...

I recently found a couple of four-year-expired rolls of Kodak 400, so I dusted off my old Spotmatic F threw them in. Here are some of the results from a car show I shot (on digital) for a publication here in Japan. A mixture of SMC 17 f4 and SMC 24 f3.5 shots. Love wide angle when I shoot cars.

I'd forgotten how much I love film!

Ok, so I tried out Mike Cash's technique this evening.

.......The rest were mainly cloud shots.
I get a lot of those myself.

Those are some nice car shots. And those cars are in really good shape. I guess those are the equivalents of classic cars in the US.

I recently obtained a STak 50/1.4. I have noticed that it is aesthetically very differnt to the STak 55/2 and somewaht different than the aesthetics of the other STaks. The particualr effects I have been noticing (I have been mainly using it indoors under poor (hotel meeting room) lighting - so mainly used at 1.4, with ISO800. The 50/1.4 seems much more likely to get image sections (highlights) blown out into over exposure. Also the bokeh is different - it produces round discs with a bright annulus at the outer ring, a kind of highlighting of the bokeh edge. All this is not bad, just different, but makes me wish I had brought the 55/2 as well. I notice the same effects in images posted by others in this thread.

That is the reason we like and buy that lens. Not sure about the blow out. I would say, instead of blowing it out, it controls it.

The 'blow out' effect was under extreme lighting conditions, such as trying to get pictures of people when they happened to be standing in front of data projector displays. The difference in light levels is many stops, with a high contrast line, the side of the face, between the sectors. But I agree that part of the pleasure of having this lens, 50/1.4, will be that it is not just a one stop faster 55/2. It actually enables different results. Later I should put up a series of pictures of a bridge in Jacksonville with the sun rising behind. I used a list of lenses to do it, just to see the effect of the sun flare. (24, 50, 105, 200, 200+2xtele) Helps me learn about how my new acquisitions perform.

Hi Mike:
Congratulations on another great 15-yo dancer, beautiful. BTW, I wanted to ask you about the Pentax AF200T flash. I noticed you use it outdoors to shoot the religious monuments. I got one from my old trunk, and would like to use it. Do you have to set it manually by trail and error? Always use it with the umbrella, through the umbrella?

First couple of photos from the new-to-me Tele Takumar 300 F6.3 Preset. Think I'm going to like this lens! Shots were wide open.

Absolute technical quality aside, I enjoy using the older ST glass for the esthetic experience. An' once in a while it pays off in excellent images too.

Some nice shots and proof that manual focus actually works if you do your part.
