JPG Straight from RAW, no crop and no PP at all.

SMC Takumar 85/f1.8 + Canon 5D = killer combo!

Takumar 300/6.3 Preset

This is the first time I shoot this bird. From the distance I thought it was just another sparrow. A the light room, I realized it was a different one.

K20D + SMC Takumar 50/1.4

Forcibly using the 50mm Focal Length. All tight crops from JPEGs...

No PP sharpening etc...

Will take this lens out more often, I thought it was flawed because I could never focus it accurately, but obviously it was not that...

Mine is ducktaped to a window. I figured out that lens yelowing, and the loss of brightnes in the wievfinder was preventing me to focus it easy.

I have my new 50mm f/1.4 SMC Tak de-yellowing daily in the bright Madrid sunshine. It's already significantly better than it was. My question - will it harm the lens if it reaches high temperatures? It's getting pretty hot while it's there.

Would love to know the answer to this question. My 50mm f/1.4 Tak also has some yellowing and I'm trying to fix that.

I know I'll never be able to accurately focus this lens ducktaped to a window

I did find trying to focus this thing wide open takes patience/luck but by f2 or 2.8 it's almost a no brainer and much easier to focus. However, even with 8 blades, stopped down it still shows too much of the polygon shape in the OOF areas...

I've read in several places to wrap the lens body in foil to prevent it from over heating, it was never clear which side to use, shiny or dull of the foil paper

*Most problematic slow/sluggish aperture blades are a result of lens being over heated to the point that the lubricant in the focusing ring starts to liquify and get to the blades (usually a long term in the heat, like in a car trunk for weeks or longer). This did happen to my Super Takumar 50/1.4, but after crying a bit and putting it away, it seemed to have disappeared, the oily on the blades that is...

In no way any special with this photo except for the nice pop/3Dness to it, I've never seen this kind of 3D in any of my other Takumar photos. The picture i very busy but I still like it because the 3Dness. I don't know if it will show up when I paste it here but I hope it will pop the same way as the original does on my screen

Crop and converted to BW (it seems as if it's not possible to show pictures from outside PF so I'll add a link)

I finally had a day off and the rain, snow and wind finally broke allowing me to take a walk with my new SMC Takumar 105mm f/2.8. My verdict? It's a wonderful lens! I was extremely lucky to find an amazing copy from a retired photographer who bought it new back in the day and only used it a couple of times. He also sold me an SMC 200mm f/4 which he said he'd never used - both lenses are in immaculate condition.

These are the 105mm on a Canon 60D with M42 adaptor.

The Transformation

We have wild turkeys in our area and they are starting to prepare for the mating season. The show they put on is pretty neat.

If you are worried about the temperature effect measure it.

As an indication, many lenses are rated for correct optical performance (at least within manufacturer specification) up to 45C, so the harm temperature would be rather higher than that.

I know things can get much hotter than that in summer. An Australian summer day can be 45C and then the temperature inside a closed car (parked) can easily get to about 70C within minutes. They give us warnings about leaving children in cars. It is actually a criminal offence becasue of the potential for serious harm to the child!
