I can't remember the last time I posted in here.. especially now that I'm shooting with my D800.. BUT after some lens attrition I needed wide.. and my good old SMC Takumar 28mm f3.5 did the job.

Stunning photos Chex!!! What adapter do you use? I don't see any drop in IQ due to an adapter. The tak 28mm 3.5 is one of my favorite lens.

Recently I said I had got a STak 300/4 missing the auto/manual switch. It defeated me for a while. The mechanism works in the 'auto' way if the switch is missing, so wide open only.

I was not able to unscrew three screws near the back of the barrell which I think would have enabled opening the barrell to access the space where the switch would operate. They are slot head screws and I could not turn them with the tools I had available without damaging either the screwheads or the screwdriver.

So I tried a different approach. I do not need the auto function, but I do not want to make a permanent change to the lens (other than the lost part).

I removed the rear baffle plate and tube (one part). There were three small slot head screws to remove that.
Then I unscrewed the rear optical assembly, which is at the front end of the reflection absorbing tube.
This gave access to the whole space just inside the rear of the lens that was big enough for my fingers.
Then I got sticky tape and wrapped it with one loop around the auto pin, pressing the pin inwards (which allows the diaphragm to close) so that the tape was as far back along the pin as possible.
This did not quite do the job of securely holding the pin, so I used a secon piece of tape to stick across the pin and the tongue on the first piece of tape to more securely hold it in a place which will kep the pin in the 'in' position.
Then I began reassembly, putting the rear element assembly back in.
Once that was in I put another piece of tape over the pin, stuck to the flat surface that mates to the rear baffle. I fitted this so it would still fit throught he slot in the baffle when it was fitted.
Replaced the baffle, with the tiny screws. These are tricky to handle adn to line up the thread. The baffle sits firmly on the flat surface which the tape is stuck to, and so helps secure the tape.

I know this is only a temporary repair, since it relies on the properties of sticky tape, but it has the advantage of not otherwsie altering the lens, so a full repair could be done in the future, or another generation of 'temporary repair'.

Will test it today. I hope the lens shows up a bit sharper than at f4 when stopped down a bit. I am planning to take it for a serious job I am doing next week.

Both with the Super Multi Coated Takumar 135 f/2.5 at f/2.5.

This one I (accidentally) front focused ever so slightly, giving the face some softness.

What are those two things, lamps? I like them.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that the Canon adapter requires any glass, meaning there should be no reduction in quality.

Yes, they're lamps I saw at a craft fair this past weekend. I like them too, though I don't $175 like them.

You are correct, but I think the shots in question were taken with a Nikon (D800).

He used a Nikon D800 not a Canon camera.

My apologies. Somehow I got Canon into my head.

Get out of my head, Canon!

Beauty and the beast

Yesterday's find. Super Takumar 135/3.5 @ f/8, 1/90 sec., and a 25mm tube.

Today's find on an outing along the Rivière du Moulin (Mill's River) to shoot the rapids. I had no luck shooting the rapids, the shots were all OOF. If you are wondering, the ball nest is about 2 inches (50mm). Shot with a Super Takumar 135/3.5 @ f/8, 1/500 sec. with the help of a small tube extension.

Round (S-T 35mm f2.0)

Picture of a window just above my office in the old building where I work.

Pentax K100DS, ISO400, Super-Takumar 35mm f2 @ f5.6, Topaz B&W Effects2, selenium tone

I had this printed on an 18"x24" canvas stretched on a wood frame. It will be placed on display in our departmental office along with several other photographs I took around our building.
