The 55mm 1.8/2.0 Taks are my favourites, they can produce really stunning pictures even wide open. I'm sure you'll enjoy this one a lot.

I second that - the 55s are awesome! I recently aquired a 55mm ƒ/1.8 Super-Tak together w/ a mint Spottie for under 50€.

I am not sure, i always shoot mine with a Pentax K5. The ISO and quality of Pentax is excellent. I am not sure what camera you used.

I use a Sony A55, it works great with my other Taks. I have the S-M-C Tak 50mm f1.4, S-M-C Tak 35mm f2, Super Tak 28mm f3.5 and the Tak 200mm f3.5. Maybe my copy of the 200mm is a bad one. ):

You should have used a Pentax camera! No, seriously, I suppose the image is heavily cropped, otherwise the noise wouldn't be so pronounced at ISO 200. The subject is not quite in focus, and there seems to be a little motion blur involved too (which brings us back to the camera question--the Sony doesn't have in-body shake reduction, does it?). The strange colours in the background result from longitudinal chromatic aberration (or "colour bokeh"), which is a common fault with older lenses. I had some weird-looking OOF branches with my S-M-C Takumar 105mm the other day, though on the whole it is a great little lens. The price of the "character" of these lenses is that you have to respect their limitations.
For proper manual focus, I used a Canon S-type screen in my K10D but it only helps with very fast lenses. Haven't gotten around to getting one for my K-5II.

The Sony has IBIS, but it is driven by a chip on the lens. They haven't implemented manual entry of focal length yet. I am waiting for that feature. While Pentax cameras have purportedly the best dynamic range performance and features geared for using legacy lenses, I haven't gotten a Pentax because they are absolutely massive when compared to the Sony SLTs (I use the A55), and there's no FF option yet, which makes upgrade options limited. Planning to get a Sony A7R when the price drops.

There you have it. A 55 year old camera and an old lens produce pictures like this, pictures a DSLR photographer would be happy with. That film is lovely with it's fine grain.
