Auto-Takumar 55 1.8

It has been sunny and cold these past few days. So no excuse to not get out with the camera. I had tried this lens with poor results on the K20D but later realized I was forcing the camera to make bad decisions. I had left the ISO set at 800 from the night before and was shooting in glaring sunshine. Much better results when you let the ISO fall to much more reasonable levels.

The gull had dropped a clam from high onto the deck of the pier to open it and had wedged the shell in the grooves between the planks to get a better grip on its dinner.

Sea weed in the shallow water created a nice splash of colour:

I got some good results with this lens a few days ago. Will post after post is complete.

A few more from our trip today: These are with the Super-Takumar 35 3.5

First one is a darn nice shot! That's a great lens, it has such a long focusing throw that sometimes getting the focus just right is difficult, but you nailed that one!
The Super Tak 35/3.5 is my favorite Tak, nice job!

K20D + Super Takumar 28/3.5 (First Model Late Version)

Thanks, this is the late from that series with the 35/3.5

Bad weather & being under the weather kept me in today, so for a break I stepped out on my porch to experiment with my Tak 200 3.5 preset lens. Not an easy lens to focus and not especially well suited to 'capture a stranger street style' photography, but capable when properly focused of doing justice to a subject (cropped a good deal).

Okay so I bought a Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 8 element lens today, paid 170 for it (excluding shipping). I'm thinking of buying a 55mm f1.8, is that a good one or should i get a 35mm lens? And if so, which one? Btw I have an old Zenit-E camera and i shoot film any advice for takumar lenses? Or recommendations? Thanks everyone

Many people here say the 55/1.8 is excellent. I like it too. I find it much easier to use than the 50/1.4. Of course the angle of view is so similar to the 50 you just got.

I have both the 35/3.5 in both auto and SMC versions. I find the SMC version much better on digital. Never tried either on film, and I have the 35/2 which I now much prefer to the 3.5.

The SMC 55/1.8 (or 55/2) is a superb lens and at least as good as the 50/1.4, and for a lot less money. My 55mm Taks have produced some of my favourite portrait shots on digital, and are great on film too.

I have an 8-element Super Takumar 50mm and the Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8 that came with the Spotmatic I recently acquired. One never knows what kind of treatment these old lenses have seen but my 50mm is fantastic whereas the 55mm is not so great (but definitely OK).

This is a shot I particularly like, although I can't quite point why. It was taken with a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar, 55mm F1.8 that I initially got as a cheap portrait lens. But it proved to be much more than that . The camera was K-30.

It made me think of a nuclear winter, because of the haze and because of how few people are on the beach.

Don't EVER try to mount a SMC Takumar on your Zenit. Just google "Takumar Zenit".
