I've been going a little overboard with the lens buying recently and have become a new member of the Takumar club (Super 105/2.8 and 200/4), the Soviet club (Helios 44-2 and MIR 24), and the A club (A 50/1.7). I haven't managed much with the 200mm yet, but I'm really enjoying the 105mm.

I know cat pictures are a bit overdone, but they usually hold still for me and they don't complain too much.

Beautiful shot! And you're buying very wisely!

Well done!

Mike, I speak Spanish fairly well, but I am totally incapable of pronouncing the rolling double-r (rr) sound. I think they call it the trill r.

But being trained as a kid learning Hebrew, no problem doing the "ch" sound, which sounds like you're clearing the phlegm from your throat.

Oh, day of days. As mentioned earlier, picked up, what I believe will be my new sweetheart lens today. Took a few test shots, and everything I've seen and read is true.....the SMC 85mm f1.8 is a goddess. Not to forgiving focus wise, wide open, but stunning when you nail it. Very thin DOF.

Will take it out for a proper test run this week to get something club worthy.

Ira, as for the price, I think I got a pretty great deal. Seller was very honest about some prior damage. The owner prior to him....dropped her. He included the mangled hood to show how bad. He had it professionally repaired. Amazing job. You can see where it was, but she's been straightened out and realigned nicely. Optically appears solid, and the hood borrowed from my 200mm Tak screws right on......and looks quite badass I might add.

Pics to follow....promise.

Help, please.

Hi, everyone!
I was wondering if I may ask for a little help with my 50mm f/1.4 Takumar here:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/106807-help-id...-50mm-tak.html

By the way here are the Taks that I have and enjoy:
Super-Takumars: 28mm f/3.5, 50mm f/1.4, 55mm f/1.8, 55mm f/2, 135mm f/3.5,
Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 35mm f/3.5,
Also, I just purchased 17mm f/4 Fish-Eye Tak, that's on the way to me.
Thanks.

Doesn't the 200 hood vignette with the 85?

I just won an 85 hood yesterday for just 9 bucks. I have 135/200 hoods but thought they wouldn't work with the 85.

Have been using my 200 hood n the 85mm since I got the 85mm. No vignetting - try it and see - may be a different story on a full frame 35mm camera however.

Looks fine in my test shots. Appears to fit on the cropped sensor. Sweet win on the 85mm hood. I scanned Ebay earlier in the week and didn't see anything. Will start the hunt again.

If I'm not mistaken you can use the 135/3.5 & 200/5.6 hood on the 50mm taks without vignetting (for DSLRs). The 135/2.5 & 200/4 might be different, though.
With film cameras, it vignettes slightly in the far corners and is almost negligible for the 55.

Boy, do I feel stupid. More stupid than usual, that is.

Didn't even think about the cropped sensor factor.

don't worry, not even lens makers consider it,.

I have several full frame lenses with tulip hoods, all 3rd party lenses, all in pentax mount when they know pentax only sells cropped sensors, but they dont even have an optional hood optimized for the cropped sensor. the standard lens hoods are almost........ useless

I have a program that I downloaded, called hoodcalc, that can calculate the length of a circular hood, for any lens, knowing the focal length, true lens diameter (not filter ring diameter) and hood diameter.

I have modified it to generate plots of tulip hoods.

Biggest issue is making something more perminant than construction paper

Buy a longer circular metal hood and engineer it to size, which actually is over the point of making the hood in the first place. That is, unless you can get the longer hood cheaper.
