For one thing it depends on which 105mm you are talking about. However, even the S-M-C Tak isn't too bad if patience is shown. There are the occasional cases of people getting into biding wars without understanding on the different versions and price trends.

That is a ambiguous statement. For one thing you don't even state which of the 5 105's it is.

I agree, sorry. It was an S-M-C Tak in near mint contition, on ebay. And the bidding activity was quite high near the end.
The last three Super-Tak 105's I bet on ended on $100-$140, so $100 for a Super is indeed achievable.

Focus wide open, then stop down.
An alternate is to leave the lens on about f4 for focusing. Speeds things up a bit and is more than accurate enough for many situations. Especially if the actual shot will have the extra DOF that comes from stopping down a coupla-three notches.

You should be required to sell one of them.

These are few from a preset Tak 105/2.8 on the 4th. The last 2 were an experiment at dusk

105mm/2.8 Takumar (preset early version) f5.6, 1/500

105mm/2.8 Takumar (preset, early version)
Taken at dusk wide open at 1/125 underexposed 2 stops

105mm/2.8 Takumar (preset, early version)
Taken at dusk wide-open at 1/15

Do you even have to focus with this lens?

I mean even at f 3.5 you can still have everything from, what, four feet to infinity in focus?

A few months back I acquired a few clunky old camera lenses. While researching them in order to sell on eBay I stumbled across this thread. After a bit I became fascinated, if not obsessed, and instead of selling them ended up buying more.

I promised myself I would not post in this thread until I read it entirely. It has taken over a month, and some days it seemed I went backward as there were more new posts added than I read but I have finally made it and here is my application to the Takumar club.

I hesitate to even post this, the quality of photos already here is intimidating to say the least.

It's nice to meet you jatrax. I think your experience is like many that happen upon this thread. Like you I made a commitment that I would read the entire thread before posting. I can't put my finger on it but there is something about the photographs that seem to create an addiction and a hunger for more.
Which lenses did you start with and what have you added to your collection since getting bit?
