Holy crap:

I just did my usual "M42 Takumar" search on eBay, and the prices are through the roof for EVERYTHING.

I do this just about every other day, but man, this is going to a whole new level.
It's sort of ironic that perhaps the more we post here, the less value per dollar the takumars have, sort of negating a big part of what we love about them.

I really want to round up my collection with the 17 and 85 but it's hard finding those two at sane prices.

I have an 85, but I gave up on the 17:

I need something in the ultra wide end, 10 to 20, and I can't rationalize spending $400 minimum for the 17 when those bucks would be better used for a more practical lens.

I can rationalize just fine. What I can't do is find four hundred bucks.

Takumar 135mm 1/2.5

If I remember correctly this one was shot at f 5.6 and the shutter speed was 1/180.

I haven't looked in a while. I think they are probably trending upwards, but not nearly to the levels that people are paying elsewhere.

I went downtown to take some photos for world pentax day , so of course all the shots I had were craptacular, except for the 2 I took on the way back to the car, what a waste of an hour

here is an ominous shot about 15 mins after a sunset

I forgot to mention 2 things

1: the reason i took the pic was : it was dark and the streetlights hadn't came on yet! by the time I got to the car , they were all bright ( about 30 seconds after this shot)

2: I missed 3 spots in the spot removal phase, sorry

Was it a waste of an hour? Did you enjoy yourself even if you didn't get any good shots? I didn't even get out myself. Think of all the fresh air you got. (unless your downtown has a lot of pollution)

Actually I did enjoy myself now that I think about it, and I learned a few things about my camera and the Taks also, so I wasnt a waste after all

re: pollution, in Moncton the air was nice and clear , lots of mosquitoes though

I worked out how to use M mode with the Taks today. Thanks Ira you are right they do come out properly exposed and there's no need to compensate with contrast or whatever.

Yesterday I won what would be described as a bargain lens at KEH - I got a 150/4 super Tak from ebay for £16. I think perhaps it's ex-military. There is a little radioactive symbol on the barrel.

Hoewever, I wonder if something is not quite right with this lens. In some shots things that are bright produce the effect shown below. Is this CA?

This effect doesn't happen on every shot in which there's something bright. I'm wondering whether I should return the lens or maybe get it refurbished. Unfortunately it didn't come with a hood.
