Auto Takumar 55 1.8

One of my treasured lenses--50 years old. A shot of the top of 150 foot high, Rainbow falls in the ADKS--not to be confused with other falls of the same name in New York. This falls is over a 7 mile hike (round trip).

Auto Takumar 55mm 1.8 @ 5.6, ISO 125, 1/25th, handheld--no polarizer--no sharpening added.

Nicely composed. 7 miles is a small price to pay for a good photo

Mike C. - I feel you on sticking up for the underdogs... Your 35, 55, and 105 pics are all awesome. My favorites are my 135, 200, and 300 - none of which get as much publicity as the 50, but certainly aren't bad. I know the 50 is good... I just get impressed by it when I finally pull it out of the case. I never remember it being as good as it is!

Ira - I shoot the same way as Porga, Av mode and +2.0 exposure, easier than spot metering and locking, but I do exposure lock as well on occasion.

well, that is not the case with my lenses/k-x. Every STakumar lens I mounted on my k-x I could use in AV without stop down metering. Lens switch is set to auto ("manual" word on lens is visible) camera is in AV mode, exposure compensation is on +3 and that is - pick a f number with aperture ring, focus and shoot. Lens does not stay wide open - I can shot it that way at any f number.
This was taken few minutes ago with a Super takumar 28mm f3.5 @3.5, Av, no metering, no compensation, natural light just after sunset, auto iso

Perfect! I am yet to get a shot anywhere near that nice with my copy of that lens. the only problem, for the forum's sake however, is you are not comparing Apples to Apples--how dare you--on the floor, fifty pushups--ASAP!

Agreed--I have walked over 20 miles in a day for less photo opportunity than this hike afforded.

Your lens is set to manual, then.

Oh no, not comparing with your pic or lens (that would be apples and bananas ), it's to make sure that flange type adapter may not need any compensation in Av mode, on other words K-x may meter accurately. See some of today's earlier post.

Ira: Productive day today shooting at a local Farmer's Market. More to come.

All with the 35 2 Super-Tak, and I think I'm going to be playing with this lens a lot more:
The shot with the cupcakes/little girl has IQ of such high levels that I just might be able to count how many hairs are on her head, with this downsized version alone--astonishing.

Like clm said, it was set to manual, kind of confusing because these days it is sliding to same direction of writing is the habit, Takumars are OLD.

What's your experience:

I recently bought a Mamiya 135 SX that won't mount on the Pentax adapter at all--it won't catch the threads. So I'm going to have to Dremel down the perimeter of the base of the lens so that it'll screw in.
I have a 28mm SX. The only problem I have is that it is in the auto mode and has to have something to keep the pin pressed. However, given I have a couple of 28mm S.T. and 35 mm Taks, I'm eventually going to sell it. It is a nice 28mm though. So is that 135. I actually used this lens on my NC1000 body. The Mamiya m42 adapter actually has an internal band to push the pin.

Now it makes sense ! Had me wondering and I don't have any m42 lenses with me on this trip.

So after playing around with it for a couple days, I'm really not sure if I just don't like the 135/3.5, or don't understand how to use the focal length. In any event, I reverted back to the super 50/1.4 this evening. Just a somewhat awkward portrait I grabbed of my dad while we were waiting on our pizza to come out, but boy is this lens sharp when you get the focus:
