Natestation: Jewelltrail- I really like that photo of the lake. Makes me want to take a nap and chill in one of those chairs with a frosty Mt Dew.
Hi Nate--Thank you for the complement--so glad you like. To be honest, taking a nap on one of those Adirondack chairs does look inviting, but I'm not so sure about the Mt Dew in this application--isn't that pretty much the most caffeinated soda on the market today?

MTN Dew is caffeine free in Canada IIRC

Today my S-M-C 105/2.8 arrived in the mail. The colors this lens produces are AMAZING. Maybe I will substantiate my claim in the near future when I have time to take more than a couple snapshots of signs passed on the expressway.

Also: Free Soul, I LOVE the flower shot.

Hey Dude, are you implying Nate is walking down, from Alaska, to Canada, to get his Mt Dew.

To my way of thinking to even consider those two against each other is to largely miss the point of using Takumars to begin with. I consider full automation a necessary evil I am sometimes unable to avoid and most certainly not as an attractive selling point. I just don't see how anyone could draw a comparison between the two, and I have never seen an image from the DA L nor would I need to see one. But I am willing to concede I am an odd fellow when it comes to this sort of thing.
I'm more interested in price/ performance ratio and usability than I am in what particular lens generation I'm using. I don't mind stop down metering with Takumars on M42 bodies or K bodies, but I do miss having the lens stop down automatically when shooting. The same level of lens/ body integration that I had with an SP II would be just fine in a full frame digital body.

The equivalent of a Super or SMC Takumar with an A series mount would be just about perfect. I got used to fast bayonet lens changes when I was shooting under rapidly changing conditions with a single K film body.

Caffeine free Mountaindew is pointless. Just like built-in flash.

I committed a egregious sin this week. Not only did I pick up an A series 28mm for 35 bucks... but I also like it better than my SMC Tak 28 :x

I used my Father's SMC Tak 28mm f/3.5 a couple of times and never really liked it all that much. I should probably try it again now that I have a split prism focus screen, but my impression was that his copy didn't perform well unless stopped down.

Instead I picked up an A 28mm f/2.8 and an FA 28mm f/2.8 at (current) 28mm Takumar prices to cover my wide end on film bodies and wide-normal on digital.

I finally got around to PP the last shots from the golden sunset session last week

Super MC Takumar 50mm f1.4 , I then walked back to the car and shot the one with the leaf in the sunset ( posted the other day), 5 minutes later it was dark!

Nice composition and shot--shooting snow scenes can be most dificult stuff. It must be a privilege to live in Alaska and it must afford some unique ligthing opportunties I would think???

I've always considered it a privilege to be able to live comfortably in an environment which is otherwise so harsh and unforgiving. I know lot of people who don't see it as a privilege at all As for lighting, it's generally good in Alaska late in the year. During the winter months sunrise and sunset come at reasonable hours (i.e. 9am and 4pm) and during the few hours of daylight the sunlight is always angled at a steep slant. In the summer the sun is out all the time. You have to be out at odd hours to get "not-harsh" lighting. As for snow pictures, well, I get lots of opportunity to practice- not much else to do!
