Got a question for some knowledgeable film users - does the +2 (approximately) EV rule still apply when using Taks on film bodies? I'm using a Canon Elan 7 in particular, if that matters. Personally, I've seen that different lighting situations on digitals can make the exposure comp anywhere from +0.5 to +3. I'm trying to avoid burning a lot of film figuring this out the hard way. Help would be appreciated!
SLIDES

Put the ISO at 200 (if you use a 100 film)

To take a pic, meter only the high lights of the scene. For all the subjects more clear than the 18 % gray target (= to the average brown of the trees), open 1/2 aperture more. Except: white subjects, open 1 aperture.

Subjects equal to 18% gray, the meter reading without correction.

I've never had to do any EV adjustment on a film body. The reason EV adjustment is necessary on digital has to do with the sensor, I think. The only thing you really need to be careful about is making sure your camera's meter is working correctly. You can figure that out pretty well just by using "Sunny 16" without having to shoot even a single frame.

@Natestation - I would suggest writing down the exposure metered by your Canon at all apertures under controlled lighting and comparing it to a hand held meter or your digital camera with the same lens under the same conditions. I don't think there's any way of knowing how your Canon will meter with a non coupled lens like a Takumar without testing it unless there's something in the camera manual about using manual lenses. My film KX meters within the exposure latitude of negative film with non coupled lenses but my K1000 meter only seems to get along with them wide open.

I did not have a scale in the house to measure ounces, but got an idea. I had to grocery shop this afternoon, so I took the adapter with me. I through it on one of the scales in the produce section--it weighs 6 ounces according to that scale.
Not as heavy as I expected ! although I.m sure the 67 glass is proportionally heavier. Still the 90 or 50 would have to be really sharp all the way out to the edges only using the center of the image. I'd probably only use it for landscapes so the weight wouldn't be an issue.

I hate to bug you so much but does the adapter fit pretty securely ? I had a praktisix- praktica m42 adapter years ago it was very nice since it had the aperature pin that coupled the aperature to the camera. It fit really well but of course that was a screw adapter so you just tightened it up snug.

Thanks again for all your help.

I'm still waiting for my Tak 55 to show up. Getting impatient

Ducdao, that last one is riveting. I guess it is because of the black & white but it really tells a story.

Yes, it is. It tells a sad story about Vietnam where there is practically no middle class. You're either super rich or super poor.

Just as I was feeling sorry for myself for being chilly you remind me how lucky I am to be indoors with a small heater next to me. Was this photo taken in Japan? I ask because of the graffiti on the wall. ("Aho" means "fool" or "idiot" in Japanese).

The first time I lived in London I had a Kiwi housemate who bought some cowboy boots in Camden. I was too skint to do likewise, and have longed for a pair ever since. As you can imagine, they're a tricky item to find in my part of the world.

Last weekend, while visiting a nearby flea market I paid a visit to a second-hand stall stall where I bought a great knee-length, Italian-made, winter coat last winter for around $50... and low and behold they now sell second-hand boots too.

These ticked all the necessary boxes (brown, not too elaborately patterned with stitching, pointed toes, wooden heel), and most importantly, they fit like a glove. Of course, it's mid-summer here, with daily highs around 30 degrees celcius, so I won't be wearing them much before April or May.

This started out as a test shot to check exposure so I could take a shot with a recently purchased Yashica 635, but I loved the colours. I'm also rather partial to the checkerboard building which is relatively new (and sadly destined to be inhabited by lawyers I believe).
