To those who have longer tak's. What is your opinion of the best 200mm
A few years ago I had the opportunity to compare six M42 and P/K class 200mm primes including Vivitar, Sears, Soligar, Tamron, and Pentax samples. (Also three DA 50-200's.)

One of the things that I found was a subjective feeling that some 200's seem to evolve from the optical formula for the portraiture family (100-150mm) and some appear to be of the long range telephoto family (200-400+). The Super Tak 200/4 was more pleasing at closer range -- say, to 20 ft -- and the Vivitar/Sears(Tokina) 200/3.5 were slightly preferable beyond 50 ft. The SMC-M 200/4 was sort of middle of the road and didn't excel at either end.

Again, this is from samples of one and subjective, but today I would tend to select older 200mm primes (more so than longer or shorter FLs) based on strength in the particular range application. There's also the prejudiced pleasure of just messing about with old Pentax friends to consider too.

This doesn't seem to be as much the case with relatively newer designs I've tried or high-quality primes like my SP 180/2.5.

So I can't say I have one single lens preference from that group other than ranking the Adaptall SP 180/2.5 and SP 80-200/2.8 as the best of my ~200mm choices.

Part of a modest roadside memorial to the Koreans forcibly relocated to Japan and forced to labor in a copper mine. Forced relocations resulted in Japan still having areas with sizable ethnic Korean populations even today. Some are now second or third generation. As Japan bases citizenship on jus sanguinus (blood) rather than jus soli (birthplace) they don't have Japanese citizenship (although they can apply to acuire it). They have to carry Alien Registration cards (as do I) and if they wish to set foot outside Japan must first acquire a Re-entry Permit or risk not being allowed back in. Certain professions are closed to them and there have been instances of youth being barred from competing in sports tournaments with their school sports teams.

She would have Mike, but she was saved bythe 2 year old We had just potty trained her, but she had an accident and ruined her dress, so after that, a bit of bark and sap was a piece of cake

I call it "Pentaxhead".
By the way, do you guys have any dead Super-Multi-Coated or SMC Takumar which you can part with? I know I've posted in the marketplace already, but my lens is in great suffering and it seems that this is one of the strange series of lenses that has no defect copies other than mine.

Kcobain: Interesting! Did you compose that in-camera with film? If so, that was a good job getting the composition. Good title for the picture.

Here are a couple of pictures I took yesterday with my Super-Macro-Takumar 50mm f4, K100D Super, ISO200, and Achiever 280AF flash. I used a bounce card to deflect some light down onto the subject. I've never tried a flash with macro before, and I was pleased with the results. It is much easier than trying to make do with natural light if there is no direct sunlight, and allows for stopping down for better DOF.

The honeybee has some motion blur - she was moving around quickly and was hard to capture. I still have work to do to get the exposure correct - perhaps a diffuser instead of just the bounce card would help.

I don't know what you mean. Double exposure? Yes! Something else? I don't know..
Anyway, great depth offield! Seems like a very good idea using flash.

Forgive the triple post; I've been on the road for awhile now, and just got internet access back for my work station.

Anyhow, I've had to move away from Alaska where I lived for the last several years, but the trip out was a last chance to break out the Tak's and test them out with the new K-r. Strangely, I found my old *istDL easier to use with the Tak's than the newer K-r (although I appreciate live view, it's crummy for routine focusing). The ISO bump was much appreciated though, as well as the smoothed out menus and image stabilizer. I'll add a few other Tak pictures from the trip as I have time.
