Nice shots, and seems to be quite a show!

I have done the UV cleaning on the window sill. The lens gets very hot, specially the rays that go though the lens. They can concentrate and create a fire hazard. That is the reason you have to wrap it in aluminum foil, so that the heat rays are bounced back to the atmosphere through the lenses. Double cleaning effect, in and out. I sit the lens on a methalic container or tray that sits on the window sill, incase the alum foil fails. No courtains around. Also, ideally, you should be holding the lens all three or four hours, rotating the lens as the sun rotates. But we know that is not possible. So, I only put the lens for two hours, at 2pm (hottest) every day and made sure I was there moving to orient the rays so they come axially or direct into the lens. It actually takes less than three days if you keep the rotation thing going, and the overheating of the metal is minimum. Search in Flicker for that, i have a photo of the lens taking the sun.

I have my new 50mm f/1.4 SMC Tak de-yellowing daily in the bright Madrid sunshine. It's already significantly better than it was. My question - will it harm the lens if it reaches high temperatures? It's getting pretty hot while it's there.

Thanks, but it's not a competition of course, just a nice hobby! And I've promised the seller to keep the end price secret, but rest assured I could have bought several 85mm f/1.8 S-M-C Takumars mint in box with that money
Would you say that is one of the more rare takumars?

Possibly (?probably) the rarest of the lot.

28mm Bokeh

Yucca Spear by natestation2

The 28mm 3.5 hadn't been the first lens I would think of for bokeh applications until I put it on an extension tube and got this roll of film back from the lab.

this depends entirely on your definition of 'Takumar' I would think, because there are a number of Takumars that were manufactured for other cameras and systems before Asahi Opt. released the Asahiflex. but there is likely no way to know how many of these types of lenses were manufactured. a good example would be something like this:

A wonderful antique. Was it October 1937?

What is the lens - "Quartz Takumar" sounds like a branding for a special purpose lens.

Ashiflex did tell us a few pages back that there were about 50 of the 85/4 produced and there are about 20 known to still exist. I think that counts as exceptionally rare.

That looks good.

I recently saw a few 3D effect images. It seems that what makes the effect is an element which is in sharp focus with everything else around extremely far from the DOF limits. The effect does not come if there is gradation of focus on the 'in focus' element.

Made using quartz crystal instead of glass, apparently. The lens was designed specifically for infrared.

The year was Showa 37, which would be 1962......well into the Takumar era. (The current year, 2012, is Heisei 24).

I've read in several places to wrap the lens body in foil to prevent it from over heating, it was never clear which side to use, shiny or dull of the foil paper
As far as heat reflection goes, my understanding is that the difference is so slight as to be practically non-existent. The difference in the two sides comes from the factory running two sheets at a time through the rollers during manufacturing. The sides which come into contact with the rollers pick up a shine while the sides that were next to each other remain relatively dull.
