I own and have used Pentax's finest lenses, modern and old, but I will only take my Takumars with me into my grave

(And they'll probably still work perfectly after being excavated one millennium later )

My taks are the only vintage lenses i won't sell (barring duplicates in which case the lesser copy will go)
that ultra achromatic is a stellar lens sir (and it's one of very few lenses suited for UV shooting) Hard to come by though, I would certainly consider grabbing one if I saw it withing a price range i could afford.

That being said, I did buy the Pentax-A 50/1.2 based on your recommendation in another forum. That will go with me and the Taks to Heaven/or Hell, whichever is cheaper.

This thread is probably the worst place to debate whether old lenses are inferior to newer lenses given all the great images produced by the Takumars and shown here
I couldn't agree more, I have my Tak's and love them.. or I would have let the Ex take them with the K-5! I can't wait for my adapters to arrive!

I agree there are some STELLAR M42 mount glass.. and I don't mind manual lenses. But I do find they are more prone to PF/CA's and some are VERY flare prone.. which is sometimes a good thing depending on the effect your going for.
Good glass is good glass, no matter when it was made! But progression of lens design has helped being faster sharper lenses.. AF or not..
I might end up picking up a Pentax 67 mount adapter for some great long lenses.. but under 200mm the Taks are easy to come by and fantastic IQ

I am so pleased with the Taks that I have collected 8 STak, 1 SMC Tak and one auto Tak, and used them alomost exclusively for the past year. This trip I have the 24, 50, 105 and 300, to suit the places and work I will be doing with them. Too heavy to carry more. I even succumbed on this trip and packed the flash.

Using them exclusively is good for developing method.

And for manual focus I really need the geriatric glasses - the ones with vari-focal grinding because 6 years ago I woke up one day and the old glasses did not work any more.

Too much chatter and not enough pictures.

An FIVB tournament came to Taiwan last week and my Takumars did very well. It was nice using the nice big focus ring instead of a modern lens.

The Dominican Republic was bigger and stronger than the rather small Taiwan team. I was surprised to find out that most of the players are shorter than I am.

One of the big hitters from Poland.

Another big hitter.

She took over the match for Italy.

Takumar lenshood

I recently bought a 28mm f3.5 Super-Takumar lens from a PF member. Later I bought a Takumar 1:3.5 28mm lens hood on eBay. It's metal, square and marked Asahi Opt. Co. Japan. It doesn't fit the lens. What am I missing? are there different size hoods for different versions of the lens.
I am amazed at the IQ of the lens. Only paid about 20 bucks for the hood so no big loss.
Thanks,
Tom

You apparently have the 58mm diameter lens and the 49mm hood I posted the same question a few pages ago.

I have three ST28/3.5 and one SMC28/3.5. Two of the first one are 58mm diamter and the others are 49mm. The hood only works for the 49mm. You can get really big hood, square wtih caps attached to the hood for $10 on Ebay. Generic, but wonderful.

kcobain1992,
Thanks, I think you may be correct. The hood is too small to fit the lens. Did you find a correct size hood?

No, and because of my current financial situation, I stopped searching too, at least for a while. Well, at least taking (digital) pictures is free, so here's another spot of colour from my 28mm Tak:

EDIT: Ok, so I dug up Rick's post a few pages back, this should be the lens hood you need to look after.
