The Southwest really is a wondrous place that I don't get out and shoot all too often even though I live here now. Being a native of northern California (SF Bay Area) it kinda feels weird shooting out here...I'm more of a dark redwood forest kinda guy I suppose.
The colors were just there... The light was fading so I had to bump up the ISO 400 and get some fairly long exposure times. (1 sec 2, 4, 8, 15) I tonemapped the image to get a big lump of information in the middle of the histogram...basically I was going for as much data as possible to mess around with in Photoshop. From there I made sure the colors that apparently were there (to my surprise because the actual scene was rather dull) pop a bit with out over doing it. I'll spare you the nitty gritty details, but some selective color, layer masking, and luminosity masking was involved in the process. Topaz Adjust and Nik Sharpener played a role as well.
