Super-Takumar 55mm f2

I was planning to sell an extra Spotmatic body, but did not have a lens to pair with it. I bid on a Super-Takumar 55mm f2 attached to an unknown-condition Pentax H1a (including a like-new case, nice strap, and cold shoe) and WON for $10.50! Wow! After I received it, I found both camera and lens to be in good working condition. I dismantled and did a CLA on both, then took some test shots of my granddaughter (who was "helping" me with the CLA process - she watched intently - "Those are TINY screws Grandpa!"). I'm impressed with this lens. I have the f1.8 version that I'm very happy with, but now am reluctant to sell this f2 version with the Spotmatic.

Pentax K100DS, ISO1600 (pushed to ISO2400 in PDCU), S-T 55mm f2 @ f2

Pentax K100DS, ISO200, S-T 55mm f2 @ f2.8

This lens does bokeh nicely.

Don't sell it , it makes so beautiful photos of your beautiful grand daughter, it would be a sacrilege.

This is my new camera! Sorry it took so long to post a picture of it. What kind of takumar should go on it? I think it is a pentax original. sorry everything is backwards because my mac takes it that way for some reason.. I am 90% sure its a pentax AP or original. Asahi Pentax 'AP' (Tower 26) - Pentax M42 Screwmount Film SLRs - Pentax Camera Reviews and Specifications Just don't know what lens would have been a kit lens way back when this camera came out. Anyways thought I would see if anyone on here knows. I want my kit to be complete.

Congratulations! You look as happy as I was to recently win TWO Honeywell-Pentax H1a cameras.

According to this article:

QuoteQuote:
The standard lenses for the Asahi Pentax were the 58mm f/2 Takumar, the 55mm f/2.2 Takumar, and the 58mm f/2.4 Takumar in Pentacon/Pentax M42x1 screw mount. The Tower 26 version of the Asahi Pentax was only sold with the 58mm f/2.4 lens.
This is referring to the "preset" Takumars, that is the ones that were extant before the Auto-Takumars, then later the Super-Takumars. I look forward to seeing pictures taken with the camera.

P.S. You can get close by getting the Auto Takumars for sale right now in the marketplace. Of course, you won't be able to use the "auto" function of the lens since the AP does not have the plate to activate the shutter pin on the lens.

Nice camera! You should select either the 58mm f/2 or 58mm f/2.4 Takumar but both are rare... unfortunately, but they are special!

My contribution in this thread, shot with the K-5 and 50mm f/1.4 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar:

Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 24 3.5

I found this lens in a thrift store for $30. In spite of a ding on the filter ring the lens is in great condition mechanically. Colours are good, quite sharp, huge DOF, and a short minimum focal distance which I look forward to exploring.
Just have to get brave enough to work out that annoying little ding. I think a hood will add to functionality although it appears less prone to flare compared to other Takumars.

("Het boze oog" means "The evil eye") Peter, I don't think a better tile could be found.

There are Canada Geese in the local bird sanctuary that will give one a similar look and will nip at your heels as you walk past them.

I like the angle of view you chose as well as the colours.

X post from K-01 thread, took my SMC Takumar 50 1.4 for a walk on a crisp autumn afternoon, it's been a long time since it sees the light of day.

wide open

Deliberately shoot into the sun for flare

@f8 focus to infinity it's just so crisp and the colour so nice

wide open contrast does drop a bit, maybe I should source a Takumar 105/135/150 metal hood for it.

Like any bargain hunter I'll gladly crow about the big wins but I must confess paying full whack to dealers for some of my Takumars. For example I paid $225 for the SMC 20 but last fall found an AP camera in decent condition with a Takumar 58 2.0 for a mere $40.
I try to limit dealer purchases as SWMBO is increasingly particular as to this facet of photography. I refer to LBA. In turn I don't really understand the growing pile of fabric in her hobby room.

Most of this collection looked very nice. I did not like the flare effect of the one you said you were playing with flare and the one before. It really seemed to lead to loss of contrast and general fogginess. I was surprised. The hood for 135/3.5 will work properly on APS_C. Should help. It does make me wonde if there is something wrong, with the lens or are you using a filter which is not good?
