Like any bargain hunter I'll gladly crow about the big wins but I must confess paying full whack to dealers for some of my Takumars. For example I paid $225 for the SMC 20 but last fall found an AP camera in decent condition with a Takumar 58 2.0 for a mere $40.
I try to limit dealer purchases as SWMBO is increasingly particular as to this facet of photography. I refer to LBA. In turn I don't really understand the growing pile of fabric in her hobby room.
$225 for the 20 is now a good price at eBay auctions. The big sving if I could find them locally would be the $30 postage price that I need to add-on, but the local market for Taks here seems to be aware they are collectors items. Also I do not have the time to haunt garage sales and op shops. Share your need to manage the spending.

Most of this collection looked very nice. I did not like the flare effect of the one you said you were playing with flare and the one before. It really seemed to lead to loss of contrast and general fogginess. I was surprised. The hood for 135/3.5 will work properly on APS_C. Should help. It does make me wonde if there is something wrong, with the lens or are you using a filter which is not good?
Lost of contrast when shooting into the sun is nothing new to me, especially for this lens, its flare resistance can not hope to hold a candle against modern lenses. But I don't know, I kind of view it as a character instead of flaw. And no I didn't use filter on it, I generally avoid using filters.

I use the STaks and now a few SMC Taks almost exclusively. I like the character they have. Modern lenses produce results that are too regular. But I have found most of them behave more nicely into the sun than this one did. The only one I had trouble with was the ATak 35/3.5. The effects of strong light into them is part of the character they have.

Today is a happy day. My SMC 135/2.5 arrived, and so fast, on the 5th working days after postage from France. I got it from forum member CarbonR. Good to do business with.

Another shot from the Spotmatic

Dye by natestation2 - Super Takumar 85mm f/1.9 on Ilford HP5 @ ISO 800 with a Honeywell Spotmatic

I've gotten done shooting my first roll of film with my restored Spotmatic and I I can only conclude this: The Spotmatic is a great camera, I can see why others on this forum have been shooting with it for a long time. The 85 f/1.9 pairs up perfectly with it. I don't know if I'll find a reason to take it off. Anyhow, just thought I'd share an image with you all. Cheers!

I found a Takumar 24mm for about $60, the only down side is that it has water damage.

Very nice on the Canons. I would like to know what adapters were used; I am interested in finding the best M42-to EOS? (I know nothing about Canon mount) adapter as well as a K-to EOS adapter for a Canon 40D that I just purchased. Just to play around; my first love is Pentax!

Takumars on Sony DSLTs

Anyone else use their Takumars on the Sony SLTs? I use mine on my Alpha 55, and the EVF is a great convenience because you can magnify and check focus, which is vital when I shoot on my S-M-C Tak 50mm f1.4 wide open.

And I put mine up done with the SMC Tak 135/2.5 5 element. This is one of the first few I have done with it. It interacts witht he light meter differently than other Taks I have, so others had been overexposed.

M42 lenses that reach the electrical contacts on the mount work properly in Av mode. Lenses that don't are around 2 stops off on my K200D, unless I use foil to make the connection. If the lens reaches the contacts but has paint over the metal, removing the paint in the right area will provide a connection and make Av work ok.

Thanks, I will look into that. I previously tried using foil taped to the body, which was unreliable, so just used +1.3EV which seemed about right on most lenses.

I looked today, 24 hours later, and the 135/2.5 is big enough it covers those pins. The other Taks seem a bit smaller.
