The 17/4 sells in eBay auctionsw at prices that make that above average, but only a little. The market is rising at the moment. If it is good you have the advantage of confirming quality before buying and having a real person to approach if there is some improper representation in the selling process. You may think the price margin, which is ot much, to be worth that.

I am contemplating how to picture my set so that they look good - light and background. Sometime.

hi, im newbie here and also new on manual lenses, still a lot to learn,
thx for ur response guys. yeah, im agreed, looking for the market price keep rising for legacy lenses, make me start to hunting takumar lines. All my lenses above are less than NZD100 except the macro one, got it at NZD150, quite bargain right? Anyway, the fiseye one is excellent condition juz like new and came with both caps..so tempting but budget very limited at the moment.

Hi. I have four takumars, a 28mm f3.5 SMC, a 35mm f3.5 Super Takumar, a 50mm f1.4 SMC and an 85mm f1.8 SMC. In a couple of days I'll receive a full-frame Sony Alpha a850 camera and my intention is to take photos with it using these lenses because the full-frame sensor will preserve the focal lengths and will perhaps provide better color than a crop sensor of a similar megapixel count that would "compress" the gradations or so it would seem to me. If anyone has experience using these or similar lenses on a full-frame digital sensor I would be interested to hear of your experiences. Of course I've been scouring the web for information but haven't found much that's pertinent yet. Today I was reading that there might be a problem with wide-angle lenses producing degraded edges because of the way the sensors are constructed and the angles at which light strikes the pixels. Can anyone confirm or deny that? If true would stopping down reduce the degradation. The other aspect of these lenses (and their use with FF) that I'm interested in is the way they render color. Thanks.

I have used some Takumars on a Canon 5DII (FF) and it is wonderful. You can get the adapters on eBay, some of them have chips that allow for focus confirmation and infinity focussing. However, it is always manual, the AF does not work. One thing that I notice is that the chip adapters come from China. I do not know the standards or tolerances used for machining those adapters (probably nothing high quality). When placing those adapters on the new camera (with more strict tolerances), the camera or the contacts may have aproblem. I did have a problem, and I blame the cheap quality of the adapters, I had to replace the contact ring ($27, but I paid $220 at Canon Factory service just to make sure). Since then, I do not use those too much. I keep using them on Pentax with the Pentax original adapter. Also, I am waiting for Pentax FF to be able to continue using them.

Surprising to me that the 5DII is lacking such sweet features that K30 comes with

IMHO if you're not a collector, the 17mm tak is not worth it. For just a little more you can get the DA 10-17mm used. Get not only 17mm fisheye, but also a 10mm fisheye, modern coatings, and Autofocus. I find that under 24mm the tak starts to lose their bang for buck, as they approach the price of modern lenses. I know that modern lenses are not built as nicely and not as nice to use, but I find that they have no problem making good images

Of course The DA 10-17 is not a pancake, but having never owned the 17mm I can't really vouch on how this affects me getting the image I want. The 10mm end sure helps though!

FYI the DA 10-17 can be used on a film body from around 14mm with very minimal vignetting.

1/60 sec, f/1.8, 55mm, iso 125, -0.3 Ev
Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8, cosina 1:1 macro adapter, lens turbo, nex 5n, hand-held, wide open

I have been nuts with Super-SMC Takumar lens line assembly in my bedroom. I am lost in finding my takumar in a pile of shipping boxes... Go figure how many takumar boxes there is. And I am NOT proud of that. Now that I love the takumar so much, I am thinking of changing from 645N to 67 so that I can keep tab on the 67 Takumar.

Cheers,
Hin

For that matter, get the 16mm zenitar fisheye, you can get it for about $200 in M42 or K, (the Kis a little more expensive)

I paid about $180 for a brand new zenitar M42 to get the wide end of my M42 kit. (I have samyang 8 and 14mm in my k mount line up)

Some recent photos with my precious black + chrome "Sonnar" Takumars. Not bad for 60 year old lenses, eh?

(The 83mm Takumar is the reason why I sold my FA* 85/1.4, FA77 Limited, M85/2 and 85mm f/1.8 S-M-C Takumars. I really like the Sonnar-look. But of course I kept my 85mm f/4.5 Ultra-Achromatic).

A couple more with the 400/5.6. This lens is not easy to use. I forgot to fix the CA on at least one.

Haha nice capture on that first one! Looks like someone's crashing after having a lil' too much sweets.
