This is exactly why I've resisted buying a m42 - k adapter all these years!

You always need at least 2 so you can go out with 2 bodies ready to fire away even in dusty windy weather or at events (maybe 3 so you have a back up

Since I have your attention. As you know, I just bought a SMC 300 Takumar. It has the lever for on the bottom like a K or M. My question is, can you view wide open, then hit the green button for metering or do you still have to stop down like the older Takumars?

The technique to use it is just like the other m42 lenses.

SInce I use my Tak 300mm for mostly outdoor/nature stuff in plenty of light, I just stop it down and shoot, it's still plenty bright enough in the viewfinder for that last bit of infinity focus tweaking before you squeeze one off.

Thee lever is for open aperture metering, it was the last addition to the spotmatic before the k series bodies came out.
