Hello, all.

I'm one of those guys with a box full of Canon FD lenses in my closet.

Over 30 years ago, an old girlfriend unexpectedly bought me a Canon AE-1, so this put me in the land of Canon until 2007, when I bought my first DSLR digital, a Pentax K100D.

I have about 10 Canon FD lenses, most of which were bought new, and there's a few of them I miss using; the 85mm1.8, and the 200mm f2.8 in particular.

When I was given the Canon AE-1, I was on the cusp of buying a Pentax K1000.

I don't regret it; that's just how things went.

I did, in the late 80s, buy a Pentax 6x7, and the results this camera delivered rivaled those from my Hasselblad.

That's when I realized how good Pentax lenses are.

Recently, I noticed that there's an adapter available to put Canon FD lenses on Pentax bodies, but from what I've read here, and at other sites, the slight image loss caused by the adapter turns very good lenses into ordinary lenses.

So why bother?

I am very happy with all my Pentax glass!

C'est la vie.

Mike
Just a suggestion, take the glass out of the adapter and turn it into a FD to PK extension tube. The 85 & 200 should be fun like that ...

I picked up a FD 200/2.2 at my thrift store for a ridiculous 3€. It's a very nice lens ... Salut, J

Jean, you picked up a 200mm 2.2 for 3 Euros?

WOW! That is unbelievable.

I'm still deciding whether I want to buy the adapter or sell all the lenses along with my Canon F-1 and buy another Pentax lens.

I spoke to the guys at Adorama, and they will give 10% more in store credit, than if you take the cash.

They also said that an entire system will bring more money than selling lenses and bodies separately.

I'm in no rush. Perhaps I'll take a photo of all my Canon stuff, and post it in the near future.

Thanks for the reply.

If you decide to sell, you might check what KEH will pay you.

Yep, it was in a "junk bin" with a bunch of near dead film compacts ... that one was a good deal.

And there have been quite a few others there ...

A few Pentax and some other K-mount stuff, but never, never a Takumar ... go figure.

Joining the club as of today. Just received my m42 adapter from adorama and my 50mm f/1.4 super-tak from NCE today. No clue if it's 7 or 8 element, but I'm guessing 7. Pics once I've had a chance to play with it (maybe I'll wait on those until after I UV treat it).

I haven't yet decided whether I like it better than the 1.4/50, but the Super-Takumar 1:1.8/55 is definitely no slouch. It seems to be doing particularly well with LoCa. I know that in a shot like this, my Rokinon/Samyang 1.4/85 would have that white sleeve all greenish.

What a bargain! This camera and case looks like NEW! Shame there is no International postage - many of those goodwill sellers are shooting in their own foot with such policy

Really like this result; the Super-Takumar 55mm is a star lens!

An early spring daffodil snapped wide open in London by the Auto-Takumar 35/2.3. This lens is more than capable of "normal" images, but I'm still having fun processing the bokeh it produces wide-open.

Wow - that Auto-Takumar 35mm f2.3 surely is a speciality lens indeed ! Amazing results !!

My opinion is that the 55mm Takumars are better than the 50mm f/1.4s. I like their output much more - sharper, better contrast, less fringing.

That is my experience too. It is almost as fast but usually I would grab the 55 rather that the 50.

Mike. The glass in the adaptor makes it like a teleconverter, because it changes the lens magnification to compensate for the difference in the pentax regestry distance plus the thickness of the adaptor, compared to the much shorter canon FD regestry distance . From memory it is about a 1.45x conversion. The adaptor I have is a two element one, which leads to really soft images wide open, but somewhat more useful sharpness stopped down. Combined with the crop sensor, it really makes anything you had for your AE-1 a telephoto. Some of the lenses you likely have would make good portrait lenses when used with this adaptor , especially for soft effects, due to the color bleeding and softness of backgrounds . It might be worth experimenting with a 1.4x teleconverter lens set in place of the cheap glass in the adaptor to see if you can make a workable solution

Once again, the colours you're getting from that lens have blown my mind. I really don't need yet another 35mm (I seem to collect them like others collect fast fifties), but I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to get hold of an Auto-Tak 2.3.
