This morning I went out walking with the STak 85/1.9 and saw ...

Some locals rather liked the on-screen version. I am feeling much more satisfaction with taking pictures now. I seem to have reduced my focus error problems which were so discouraging. I did discover some kind of problem with the lens. It does not focus to infinity. I guess I am going to have to do some formal testing to work out what the symptoms are and then to work on the necessary adjustments. I guess someone adjusted it wrongly in the past. Well, maybe in a couple of months when I get my tools back from the shippers. I can get good focus out to about 20 m, which is good for most uses of an 85mm.

Lilies in the Shade

Taken with Super Takumar 135mm f/2.5 possibly at f/8. I got this copy with barely any sign of use from a Takumar collector in Victoria, B.C. Even the hard case and metal hood that came with it look like they just came out of the factory. I have fallen in love with the IQ of this half-a-century-old telephoto. The only drawback is the weight of the lens not counting the heft of the thick metal hood and lens cap.

Did you mean to attach something.

I know what you mean about liking the style they give. So I collected samples of most focal lengths.

Hi Tim60,

There is an attachment. Could it be your browser? I occasionally have this problem depending on the browser that I use. Sometimes I see no picture; one time I kept seeing two pictures.

Anyway, many of the Taks have lovely IQ

I can see the attachment and it is well worth seeing. Nice surface texture with the cross lighting.

Probably an artefact of the combination of stuff I am using.

Thanks for compliment. I find the Taks or Super Taks have a more subdued rendering than their SMC siblings.

Nice, I never noticed any swirly bokeh out of my 50 mm 1.4.

However here there are two shots taken with the 55mm f1.8 that I consider very representative of the pastel bokeh Taks are famous for, on other places they were much appreciated.

Genuine Pentax M42 to PK adapter question

Hi,

I have just received a genuine Pentax M42 to PK adapter that I bought off e b a y. The unit works as it should on my two Pentax DSLR's, but will not on any of my old film cameras. Any idea why? Is the adapter somehow defective? Your comments will be much appreciated.

The swirly bokeh is unusual. I have never seen my Super Taks (2 versions) and SMC Tak 50mm f/1.4 do that.

The mount is the same, it should fit. Which SLRs are you trying it with?

I tried mounting the adopter on my Pentax ME, Ricoh XR 10 and Ricoh KR5 III. The adapteor goes in but won't lock. It goes back to unlocked position and, of course, falls out.

With my Pentax K5 and K7, the adapter stays in place.

Not that it really matters since I don't shoot film anymore, but I might again in the future. I am expecting delivery of a Super Takumar 55mm /1.8 and a Tair 3S 300mm within this week.

Thanks.

I don't usually visit here, but on finding an older shot with the Tac 55/1.8 taken with my K5, thought it was time. I don't remember which model Tacumar was used, but it was taken at 1/640 sec

This shot does justice to the beauty of these flowers. The colours are just so soft and alluring. You can't go wrong with that Tak,

I was surprised to find swirly bokeh in some recent shots with my Super-Takumar 50/1.4. Here's an example. (It's out of focus, I know, but it's swirly ok...)
