Actually, I have three. The one I used for the samples above (and the best IMO) is the pre-set.

Here are few of my shots taken with this lens

I stated "not the sharpest lens for close-focus" by which I meant that when I pixel-peep it's not as sharp as, say, my DA 35mm limited. I realise I'm setting the bar very high there and when not pixel-peeping the 105mm is perfectly fine and a wonderful lens in use (I think it has the smoothest focusing and most pleasant aperture ring of any lens I own).

There was not much color in the original, so it begged for a monochrome conversion...

K5, ISO80, SMC Takumar 55mm f1.8 wide open (I think), converted with Topaz B&W Effects 2.

I'm gradually reading through this thread (though with 689 pages, I may have to skip a few posts!). Excited to start using my old Takumars with my K20d and start posting my pictures! All my lenses are from my film days with a Spotmatic F in high school in the 90s. I'm so glad I held onto them! (Incidentally, I just pulled out the Spotmatic and discovered there's half a roll of film shot in it. I guess I'll be shooting some film as well!).

Here's what I'll be working with:

SMC 135mm/2.5
SMC 50mm/1.4
SMC 28mm/3.5

Can't wait to join the club for real!

You have in your hands some pretty cool lenses.

I don't have the SMC 135/2.5 but I have the optically-identical SMC Takumar 135/2.5. That is like a surgeon's tool mechanically and optically speaking. Definitely one of my top 3 Taks. The SMC 50/1.4 in my bag, which came with my first ever SLR --- the Pentax KX, is legendary in many ways relative to the lens making technology of the time it was made. I love its contrast and bokeh. I also have the rarer SMC 28mm/3.5, which has close to having a cult following. It is the best of the 28mm Taks, M, and A series that I have. You definitely can't go wrong with your trio.

I didn't realize there was a difference between SMC and SMC Takumar. All 3 of mine are SMC Takumar.

What is the difference? If you don't mind explaining.

Oooops! Sorry. I didn't realize I am in the Takumar Club.

When you wrote SMC ... I immediately thought of the SMC K series. Nonetheless, my observations still hold true. The SMC K 50mm/1.4 and SMC K 28mm/3.5 are optically identical to their SMC Tak siblings albeit having a K mount.

By the way. the SMC Takumars are the latest in the series. They were preceded by the Takumars and Super Takumars, which both have less advanced multi-coating than the later SMC Taks.
