Nicely done, Mel. I see you made it down to Culpepper. Wish I could have gone, but my wife had other plans for me.

Thanks guys. MRRiley+ was there too. I'm sure his shots of the planes in the air turned out better than mine. None of mine were post-worthy (and not for here anyway as they weren't with the tak).

I do love the color this lens give. I want more taks but alas, the budget will not allow.

So here's my first entry into the Takumar club. I got a SMC Tak 55/1.8 quite cheaply from eBay. I was disappointed at first because the auto/manual switch was stuck in auto and the seller was no help (he said the lens was in perfect condition and it was my fault if I bought a lens that would not work with my camera). I asked Mike Cash who directed me to the knowledgebase article about the clutch release pin which was stuck on my lens. A quick clean, and the lens now works fine. So here are some initial photos:

First I put the camera on the ground and took some pics:

It is autumn, so there are leaves everywhere:

Glad to see everything worked out for you, Richard! The more you use that lens the more you're going to 1) love it and 2) snicker uncontrollably at the thought of how little it cost.

Thanks Mike, actually at the moment I have a different reaction, because I already own an M50/1.4 (which cost me three times as much) and I have come to the conclusion that this Tak is better. But once I have sold the M50, I will be able to buy several more Taks

I've got a S-M-C Tak 200/4 on the way to me at the moment and that cost even less than this 55, so I have some more fun to come.

I recently bought a Super-Takumar 50/1.4 and a Zuiko 28mm.

I enjoyed playing with these manual focus lenses once the adapters arrived. But my enthusiasm was tempered by the large amount of out of focus shots I was getting with my 5D. The ratio of good shots was disappointing. Yesterday I went for a walk with the 28mm and a Canon 20D and I was still not that happy.

After reading many pro and con reports on the merits of all kinds of focusing screen options I thought I would try the Canon 5D EsS screen. During my Pentax LX days I would swap screens all the time so this was a familiar procedure.

What a noticeable difference. I shot a bunch with the Tak wide open and voila: in focus images!
I will next try the 24-105/4 L as its my slowest lens. All my other glass is 2.8 or faster.

I wish I had tried this screen a long time ago.

Here is a quick test of our "hate posing for photos" cat indoors wide open at 1.4

No picture I'm afraid but I just did get a 50 1.4 with a spotmatic so I'm going to have to try it soon.

I came across this description of a lens in the circa 1970 Manual/Extras catalogue that came with the spottie: Note the free tripod and minimum focusing distance.

Tele-Takumar 1000 f/8 Photographs subjects which are to far away to be seen by the naked eye. The ultimate in fine optics for the photographer who specialises in news, sports, scientific or wildlife photography. Fast, accurate focusing with manual diaphragm. Furnished with built-on lenshood, rigid wooden tripod and in wooden case.

Lens elements - 5, Min aperture - f/45, min distance - 98', Angle of view - 2.5 degrees, weight - over 12lbs, tripod weight - 26lbs.

Great pics with your 85mm bruloup, that lens's colours and bokeh never fail to impress, I especially like the bust up old car.

Trying to get through my backlog of photos, here's one with my 55mm f1.8 from a few weeks ago I meant to post right after taking it:

I give up! I'm switching to folding cameras and anything but Takumars from now on.

OK I lie... one last one, Super Tak 28/3.5, Ilford XP2, panorama stitch 1/3 of the way from the right

Well, I decided to take my rarely-used SMC Tak 50/1.4 out for a spin at Balboa Park. My humble attempts:

Spent the weekend in Ottawa for Canadian Thanksgiving. The colours there and in the Gatineau's in Quebec were astounding. Like shooting fish in a barrel. Here are a few, more to come once I finish processing them all

Super Takumar 28mm f3.5

Super Takumar 28mm f3.5

SMC Takumar 55mm f1.8 (damn why didn't I have the 200mm f4 with me!)

Here's one from today. There is a lot of symbolism in this shot if you look for it.
