preset Takumar 135mm f3.5 ver1

The photos taken by this lens seem to me to have a different look. It's hard to explain. Maybe the telephoto compression has something to do with it. And probably the way the uncoated lens sees colors and contrast. Anyway, if the weather co-operates I might go to the park tomorrow and photograph flowers, animals and people. A quick shot from today at ISO 100, f9 and hand-held with a UV filter on the lens. In the full-size file there's a lot of detail in the power plant that I didn't see before.
I cropped this image from the one I initially posted. That one had bridge cables extending out of the scene on both sides. Apologies to the purists.

Another shot. "The Domicile". "If you lived here, you'd be home now or in a reasonable facsimile of it, comrade."

Loving my Vintages

Hello - I am really enjoying my Pentax S-M-C Takumarvintage lenses and also chuffed to see a Tak thread - so hope you don't mind my joining in with a few of my images.

In future, what I must remember to do is make a not of which of the lenses I have used as I have 3 of them, 28mm, 85mm & 200mm.

Welcome. This is an old and very active club. Did you just get your Taks? Otherwise, I think you would've come across the club before. Most of the members shoot with Pentax cameras. I shoot with Sony, but we all share a great appreciation for the very fine Takumars. Your shots are very nice but the purple flower was shot with a Tamron 90mm macro lens so it should be removed. It didn't look like it could be shot with the three lenses you mentioned so I checked the EXIF. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

A Morning in the Park with the preset Takumar 135mm f3.5 ver1

Working with this lens can be tough. The f3.5 maximum aperture, 7 foot minimum focus distance, narrow field of view and shallower depth of field (due to being telephoto) are difficult constraints for me to work with. But it can get results. I took about two dozen shots, deleted two or three in camera and rejected a few more after viewing them on the monitor. A couple of the shots, the millipede and the flower, had to be strongly cropped. So, after all that here are the best, people (1), animals (1 or 2), and flowers (1). Enjoy.
The millipede was about 8 or more inches long. I think it's only one but I didn't want to get closer than MFD with this one. It's one of my least favorite insects (not that I have any favorites), and if I remember right they're poisonous and can jump. (j/k) The cat is feral, wasn't aggressive but wasn't friendly either. He avoided eye contact despite my best efforts to get on his good side. The water monitor was just, well, unimpressed. For the shot of the guy on the tricycle, I pre-focused on the spot and chose an f-stop, 5.6, that enabled a 1/1000 shutter speed so I was ready when he came by.

I didn't upload the shot of the water monitor. He was pretty big, about four and a half feet I'd say. He wasn't concerned by my presence. They're very common in Bangkok, near waterways (or in them), and quite unobtrusive because of their coloration and slow-moving ways. I've seen them eating fish.

New to PentaxForums, but not to the delights of Takumars...

Hi all, I joined PentaxForums a few weeks ago, and have so far only shared in the K10D Club thread, having recently bought one of these fantastic DSLRs. The 10MP CCD sensor seems tailor made for the Takumars and I've been getting some very pleasing results. I've also just got a Samsung GX-1S, which is a rebadged Pentax *ist DS2 I believe, with a 6MP CCD sensor. This too seems to love the Takumars.

I currently have five Taks - Super-Takumar 28/3.5, Super-Takumar 55/1.8, Preset Takumar 105/2.8, Preset Takumar 135/3.5, Super-Takumar 150/4. I have just ordered an Auto-Takumar 35/3.5 too.

I used to shoot a lot more film (my remaining film bodies are a Spotmatic F, Pentax Program A, and a Contax 139 Quartz which I use M42 lenses on with an adapter) but since discovering the K10D I've hardly shot any film.

I started reading this thread (and enjoying the inspiring photographs) back from page 1, but realised it will will take me months to read it all (currently I'm around page 70!) so decided to start joining in this end of the discussions now.

Here are a couple with the wonderful Super-Takumar 105/2.8 and the Samsung GX-1S.

I've wanted to own that version of the 135mm for a long time, and you've definitely convinced me now. Great stuff.

Here's a couple of recent 20mm shots (xposted).
