Originally posted by Dartmoor Dave Yes, a separate hood for each lens, which stays always attached. Some are original Takumar hoods and some are modern, and since I haven't shot any film for over a year now I use the hood sizes that work for best APS-C. So most of the original Takumar hoods aren't actually on the lenses they were intended for. I've got the original leather cases for most of my Taks, but I use them as handy little storage boxes for all sorts of non-photographic odds and ends. The lenses themselves are stored in my dry cabinet, which is an essential in the Dartmoor climate.
Thanks Dave for the extra info. I don't really ever use a hood, not something I've thought of - except lenses that have their own hood that pulls out. What's the difference you've noticed in shooting, or is it mainly for protection of the front of the lens? I've always thought lens hoods were to reduce flare, but not at all minding a bit of flare myself I haven't bothered.
Like you I've hardly shot any film this year, whereas at my peak maybe 18-24 months ago I was shooting 12 rolls a month or more on Pentax K and Contax bodies (both mostly with M42 lenses). Buying the K10D in May was an absolutely gamechanger for me - a camera that gives much of the tactile pleasure, and handling, and immersive viewfinder experience of film bodies, plus I could use my vintage Pentax K and Takumars easily, plus it gives me results that don't look clinically digital, but actually rather warm, natural, and dare I say it, getting towards film-like...
Just been taking stock of my film this evening in fact - about 60 rolls so far and I'm only about a quarter in. Time for a big sell up to maybe fund a new Takumar... Knew I'd get back on topic by the end of this ramble... : )
