Super Tak 28/3.5 (58mm version)

Great composition Paul, and another reminder that I tend to prefer photos that I see with the original 28mm to shots from the later one. I can't really understand why Pentax felt the need to start again with the 28mm length. Was it purely to get a smaller sized lens? Or was the second version cheaper and more profitable to make?

Thanks Dave. I really adore the rendering of the old Tak 28, too. I don't have the 49mm version to compare it with, but I do have the M28/3.5 (also 49mm). Just a fantastic lens, with wonderful colors and sharpness - but - it seems to lack a bit of the 3D pop of the old Super Tak. Unfortunately my Tak suffers from some softness/blurryness on the right (or top) edge. Works well enough for verticals like the lake shot above, though.

I guess you could call it that .

SMC Takumar 20mm f4.5

I did some grocery shopping today, picked up another loaf of bread to photograph, and then checked out the fruit selection. I wanted to get a persimmon, but they were too expensive. The dragon fruit looked like a good subject but again too expensive. (I see fruit vendors on the side of the road selling them so I'll check their price.) I opted for this Indian pomegranate. It was the most photogenic of the group, and I decided it was worth $2.50 US for a good photo. Besides they're reputed to have good nutritional properties. "Indian Pomegranate II", shot at f11.

First photo of 2018 and of course it's a pony. With the SMC Takumar 28mm/3.5 on the *ist DL2.

Recently I've gone out a few times with just the 28mm on the DL2 because I didn't want to lug a bag full of gear around, and I've found that having just one camera and one prime lens is a really pleasant way to do things. So I'm thinking that I might try to stick to that approach for a while. I'm considering my SMC Takumar 24mm/3.5 as the lens, and probably the GX-10 (K10D) as the body. After all, for the whole of the 1990s I used nothing but an Olympus XA with its fixed 35mm lens, and I took a lot of the favourite photos of my life with that little thing.

Very nice, Dave. I love the *ist/28mm combo - the simplicity is somehow liberating. Is your SMC Tak 28 the 49mm version?

My 28 is a very late 49mm SMC example with the aperture follower, but I think I'd probably prefer an original 58mm version like yours instead.

You've said it perfectly with: "The simplicity is somehow liberating." Going out with only one lens seems to free me up to just enjoy the walk, instead of sizing everything up for photos all the time. Here's a snap from this afternoon with the 24mm on the GX-10, the only camera and lens I had with me:

I'm not normally someone who notices finer points like bokeh. But wow! Even I can see that the bokeh from that Sonnar is wonderful.
