Zone focused and shot blind with the 20mm yesterday evening (and uncropped). Apparently nowadays they make DSLRs with little fold-out LCD screens to help with this sort of ground level shot. Which is fine, but I actually quite enjoy using the blind shooting technique that I've been practising for decades.

Very nice work, Dave.

The only time I've ever done blind shooting I used the DA 12-24 at 12mm with the camera over my head to clear the audience at a kid's dance recital. It's really hard to actually have the camera level, but at distances that should use 35mm or so there is lots of cropping room. I won't post the image. I can embarrass myself only so much ...

I'm with you Dave, I've done many blind shots like that and love the odd perspectives, but sometimes there is some luck involved too, heh.

When I'd shoot over a crown with a twin lens back in the day, I'd hold it over my head looking up into the ground glass, worked great for that and low angles too. I tried this with my K-1 and the flippy screen, works a treat. Old habits are hard to break.

Yep, there's definitely a big element of spray-and-pray. And who am I trying to kid: I know that I'd love a flip-out screen if I had one and I'd use it all the time.

While we're on the subject of technology that I haven't got, can anyone tell me if the K-1 offers a silent electronic shutter option by flipping up the mirror and using live view? There have been a few times recently when I haven't taken a shot because of shutter noise.

Edit: Ahah, Google tells me that there is a silent electronic shutter option. Guess that means I'll be sitting here with my mouse finger poised when we hit the 40,000 post mark this month.

Super Multi Coated Tak 135mm 2.5 (V2) on Sony A7III.
One of a bunch of photos from the recent Coney Island Mermaid Parade in NYC
If you click here it will take you to the album (mostly shot with the 135/2.5).

Super Multi Coated Tak 200mm f4 (whoops, forgot to put the hood on)...
Some pp. If I sharpened this up it would look pretty cool but for now its kind of 'painterly'.

Another nice one, Dave. I hate shooting blind. No tilt screen was one of the negatives against the Pentaxes when I was buying. There were more positives so I went with Pentax but I do wish I had a tilt screen....

Great shots! I used to manage a Mastering studio in the city 2004-2008 = I wish I'd been into photography as I am now back then.

Anything studio/instruments just brings back awesome memories.

Awesome shots! I've recorded through a Neve before, gosh, it was about 2001 or so... I also got my hands on an SSL once. Fun times - the air is so crisp, and the ambience so quiet in a studio (until chatter or mussic comes trough) - awesome experiences... thanks for sharing.
