Ha! Surprised no one's ever asked before (of course most likely no one cares 'cept you obviously...)

Region 5 is one of the Regional Areas of the Forest Service, and it's the one I live in (saying "California" would be far too simple ).
And there was me thinking it was one of the climate zones from a plants and trees POV.

Maybe everyone from Cali.

When I heard Region 5, I thought of DVD region encoding, so figured he was either from Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Africa, Central or South Asia, Mongolia or North Korea.

So I'm no longer impressed by heliphoto's English.

I didn't even know of such a thing. If this is the sort of thing you're referring to it looks I'm in 8a.

Wow I'm impressed! Did you just know it 'cause I post all these pictures from Cali all the time? (or say "Dude" in my posts some times?)

Again, I didn't know of this meaning either. It is impressive how good the english is on this board from people all over the world (better than mine I'm sure.)

I started puting that is my region on a US wildland firefighting board, where it would be readily understood, and I figured here it would just be an obscure reference which no one would get - little did I know there could be so many interpretations .

And now for something completely different... A picture from a takumar...

Pentax K20D
S-M-C Takumar 105/2.8

We've been having a relatively mild winter, so when I was deep in the mountains north of town a few days ago and enjoying the solitude and beauty of the rivers up there I was surprised to look downstream and find icicles. At first I thought they were white stains on the rocks from concentrations of bird poop. It took me a while to realize that some of the trickles feeding the river had frozen solid.

Hey guys I just got my first Takumar and I have one question. When I raise aperture to the maximum the viewfinder gets really dark. Is this normal? I don't think this happened to my Sears lens.

yes...

When you close down the lens there is less light. So it gets darker.

If the lens has an A/M or auto/manual switch, then you can use A to focus and switch to M to meter,

In A the lens is wide open, in M it goes to whatever aperture you had selected.

All my taks have the switch, so that is how I use them

That's actually what I've been doing, thanks.

That's right Josh and there are also the Sunset zones for the North West, as in Sunset magazine.
