Thanks for that info. I was not aware of that.

Crazy how small it can seem in this internet age. Captain William Bligh was born in Plymouth, Devon, about 15 miles from where I live just outside Tavistock. He's mentioned in this commemorative plaque on the harbourside in Plymouth, from where two of the First Fleet ships left for Australia. Oh, and it's also where a little ship called the Mayflower headed off to some other colony. . . now what was that one called again?

(Apologies for the non-Takumar photo)
Thank you for a beautifully clear and informative photo. It is hard to tell that it is a non-Takumar. But it was easy to find out. I would not have looked if you hadn't told me.

Richard Smith unveiled the plaque. Probably not the same Dick Smith, famous for his electronics shop that went defunct some years after Woolworths bought it, and who was famous for his Australian owned and operated businesses, and also had a controversial stint as head of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Shot of a closed textile mill near home. Like a lot of southern textile facilities, built hard on a creek in the late 1800s, expanded and rebuilt until it closed in the early 2000s.

8 element Super-Takumar 50/1.4 wide open on Fujifilm X-E1 ... I received a new M42-to-FX adapter today, so I slapped a lens on it. The first two are snaps from our garden and the last from a brief visit to city center ... while Charlotte was at her flute lesson. I have really nothing to do for about a 30+ minute wait, so I just amble about here and there. (x-post from the Bokeh thread)

Funny: I was looking at those images and thinking "if that was film, it would have to be Fuji..." Interesting the family resemblance to digital.

I really believe that Fujifilm based their jpeg output on the colours from their films and that they probably have a much better understanding of colour than any of the other digital camera makers. Their jpegs are just superb.

I think you're right. The more shots from Fuji cameras I see, the more I want one. The film-like colour rendering, particularly with Takumars, really appeals to me. I could live quite happily with a digital camera that produces photos that look like Velvia, and I also really like the classic Fuji control layout.

I hesitate to even look at how many Velvia slides I have in my possession.

SMC Takumar 20mm f4.5

Hola!

I've been playing with the lenses (and cameras) I just brought back from Thailand. For the past few days I've had the Pentacon 30mm f3.5 (MOG Lydith) lens on my a850. Last night it occurred to me that if I put the Tak20 on my rarely used Sony a65, an APSC camera, I could get the 30mm perspective while retaining the 20cm/8" MFD and make use of the 20's great microcontrast. Sounds like fun, right? Anyway, my first photo with the combination is here: Generations | Sony a65 with SMC Takumar 20mm f4.5 lens | William Bolton | Flickr . (Sorry, I'm still unable to post photos on the forum.)
