Any hints as to how to square the hood up with a screw mount lens? My Pentax adaptor and this lens do not get it right, and I had to rotate and slightly crop the image to remove the worst of the hood's vignetting.
This may take me a minute: It seems to me that the:
- orientation of the first female thread in the M42 camera body
- and the orientation of the first male thread on an M42 lens
- and the length of the mounting throw (number of turns to snug)
Should be standardized, such that all M42 lenses mount up with the distance scale and aperture index at 12:00 (dead center when looking down a the lens).
It would also seem that the bayonet flanges of K-mount lenses and the female mounting points on K-mount (or any other, for that matter) cameras should behave in the same way.
That being said, the variation has to be between the orientation of the M42 threads and the camera mount
in the adapter itself.
Yes?
So, I went in and looked at my M42 adapter (K&F Concept). There are three very small set screws arranged radially in the circumference of the adapter that seem to secure the M42 insert into the rest of the adapter. Take a look at yours; there should be the same sort of arrangement. What I'd suggest is for you to mount up a lens onto your adapter and onto your camera, loosen those set screws and rotate your lens to the proper aligment. Be careful to not "cock" the lens/threaded portion in the adapter.
