The Japanese magnolia is with the SMC (@ f2.8), the daffodils with the Super Tak (@ f4.0).
To help, I would try a variety of scenarios involving a tripod.
Pick the same flower, a still wind day. Tripod up, take some wide open, f2.8 and f4, compare.
Pick a landscape scene, f8 tripod up, compare. (do some into the sun also, compare contrast/flare etc)
Otherwise its very hard to compare lenses.
