The F 85/2.8 lens is a wonderful lens — beautifully constructed (mostly metal) with gorgeous color rendering.

Pentax 28mm f/2.8 Soft Focus

Here are a few pictures taken with a somewhat rare lens among the soft focus lenses (which are not so common in general): the Pentax 28mm f/2.8 Soft Focus. Most of the pictures taken with this lens available online are landscape or cityscape scenes taken from far away, which doesn't make much sense in my humble opinion. This lens is made for close-up pictures (it focuses down to 25cm), not for infinity shooting.

This is what I call smooth bokeh for a 28mm lens... All the pictures taken at f/4.0.

Cheers!

It's images such as yours that encouraged me to find one for myself. I decided on a specific version and located only two, both in Japan, and one of those arrived on my doorstep last week: the FA85 Soft 2.8. I'm horrible about posting my photos, but I'll make a special point of doing so for this one in the next few days.

You must believe in spring

Combined with an extension ring the FA* 85mm makes a nice soft focus lens at wide f-stops. I suppose it has to do with the IF being optimised for the distance range it is set to, so if you shoot at close range with the lens set near infinity it is operating out of specs to some extent. Anyway, this is a slightly smaller crop than APS-C from a frame taken at f/2.4 with the K-1 II.

Fujinon 85mm f/4.0 Soft Focus

The Fujinon 85mm f/4.0 Soft Focus is an unique lens because it features a "streamer" aperture disc in the optical path (like the famous Imagon). The multiple small holes in the disc deliver an unusual bokeh, which can look nice but also sometimes a bit disturbing when there are out of focus light sources or specular reflections. This lens' main drawback is the 1.0m minimum focus, which is a bit long for many subjects. But a Pentax S82 close-up achromat can help getting closer to the subject (taken with the K1ii, lens wide open):

Cheers!
