confused

wow that is an amazing shot of the water drop!

My new Tammy 28-75 is taking some great shots just like I had hoped for, but it is inconsistent. A while ago I switched my focus area to a center spot then I recomposition because I was having similar probls with the kit lense and the kx doesnt have focus indicators.

Any suggestions? sometimes they are georgeous, sometimes rather blurry and I dont see any rhyme or reason to it. Tried some shots at a small aperature and was disappointed. Part of the reason then was that it was in full sun which I know can be difficult.

Also was does front loading mean in reference to a lense? How do I check it? Guess I should be a little more systematic, shooting the whole range of focal points and the whole range of f stops.

Thinking three shots each at 28mm, mid range, and 75mm. One at 2.8, next at mid f stop, and the third at the smallest f stop.

Thank you for any input.

Glad you like it!

You may want to try checking to see whether the focus is off on the lens. Not sure what camera you have but many have AF adjust options. Tamrons are a bit notorious for having these issues sometimes. This could be a reason as some shots would be out of focus depending on the aperture. This would be Front focus or back focus which is likely what you meant.

Shooting in full sun can also be an issue especially if shooting into the sun or when strong rays could enter the lens and cause flare or washed out photos. A hood can help with this a bit.

Try taking some test shots at your lowest aperture preferably on a tripod on a timer shooting at a 45 degree angle at your lowest fstop. You can print a test chart from the internet. This should give you an idea of whether your focus is off
or not. That said many people say this method is prone to errors so take it with a grain of salt.

Good luck!

Heres another droplet shot:

tommyx - I love the first photo of the tracks...the processing on caught my eye.
How is the 70-200?(what do you think of the zoom range on a dslr and all that jazz?) I have been thinking about buying one.

Here is another couple 17-50 photos...This lens really has been amazing...a workhorse for me since I got it last December.

Image made using my K-5 on a Tripod.

Seeing the Playa do this was new to me...it was really cool...seemingly peeling up in thin strips. Walking on it was crunchy, and had a distinctly different feel under my feet than the other parts of the Playa.

Used my K-x for this one

This was a really weird sight in a desert notorious for being super dry.

Hi BlackRockBacon

It took me awhile before getting the 70-200 due to the size and weight. No regrets though
If the surrounding has enough allowance, the 70-200 is a great lens to pair with the 17-50.

That shot was taken handheld btw.

Just like a bad penny…

I prefer the first except for the DOF, which is way too deep- the grass distracts.

It's a great lens I use it for close up / macro, tele reach (of course), potraits, concerts... It is big and heavy, though. I'm still getting used to that
Here's one shot from yesterday with it.
